Enforce a curfew. You better make sure you're out of the camp before nightfall or the perimeter gets locked down tight.
Opens back up in the morning, obviously.

This way, it is realistic (A trade camp probably wouldn't remain open 24/7.. Would it?) and it will get people moving about their business once the day is up. Unless, of course, everyone decides to spend the night...

Being open 24/7 is the only way Exigo can get away with the rip off job they do.

A plain wool cloak they buy for 18gp (after selling you the wool for 8 and you spend another 12+ making it into a cloak) then they turn around and sell that cloak for 100gp. Yet when you read the description of the "fine silk and cotton" cloaks that "rare dyes" have been used on... 1gp is a slap in the face of any crafter or any citizen... Exigo is an evil monopoly so leaving the camp open 24/7 and replacing the benches when they are destroyed is the only way to generate any good will at all.

i've seen a lot of great RP at the fire; i've seen people gather parties and go adventuring, a scavenger hunt played, Vigo's finger get cut off, and more; i don't see this as a problem as some others do.

personally, i don't think enforcing "don't stay at the campfire" would be very helpful or necessary. though i agree it's odd the number of people who don't mind getting drenched in a huge storm for hours at a time, i prefer the covered tent area in the virdale forest camp!

Well, you weren't around in the good old days where people would do nothing but sit around at the campfire. I mean that, quite literally. I lost count of the antics that may have spawned in that infernal campsite, but trust me when I say that this rule is for the best.

I'm happy with the way things are. Sure, it's absolutely fine that Dms aren't willing/keen on starting events around Exigo. It works both ways. The campfire is the place I tend to hang around if I don't have much time, and I really only want to engage the Juney-Jabber switch for 40 minutes.

Exigo Campfire syndrome isn't something that needs stamping out. So long as people know the concequences of hanging there (no plot hooks, possibility of having ear chewed off by gnome), there's no harm in them hanging out there. Live and let live.

I always head to a high traffic area when I log on, simply because standing around alone is DULL. If Exigo is where the peoples are, then that's where I'm going. I don't have enough free time to spend 15-20 minutes of my gaming time waiting for something to happen.

As an aside: GBX is back? Been a looong time.

I like the campfire for casual RP and forming parties to help with some quest, otherwise I'm wandering around hoping to run across someone.

Ariel would love to talk with some Red Knights, or other such groups, perhaps someday she'll meet one.

Put Ninjas of the Dragon clan at the exigo; epic level and hostile. That should clear things up

I don't think the Devs/DMs really care if people hang around the fire, I think it's more "Don't be around the fire if you want an event" sort of thing.

I can see where the DMs can get kind of bored with people hanging out by the fire but it's kind of a good thing when you think about it. It's a really good thing when there's not an event tied to any overarching plots. People who need help finding lost kittens or "things" probably know that adventurers hang out there quite often. This makes it a good place for people to hire "problem solvers." Exigo might not even mind so much as it increases traffic through the trading post. They could even charge a percentage of the bounty offered as a fee for the "service."

Also, an event tied to an overarching plot can begin as a "find my kitten" adventure and morph into something bigger while en route to the poor thing or on the way back. With all the guards around it makes a relatively safe place to meet up with all of those scary tough adventurers.

QFT. There's nothing wrong with wanting to socialize around a campfire and share whatever personality you've developed for your character, and most importantly, if you enjoy it? By all means do it. However, don't expect much more variety than campfire socializing.

I cant remember which DM it was (probably Uri) but I once got attacked by the campfire as Peligir!

                              Went something like this:

                              Campfire: *flickers*
Peligir: *gazes at the fire* Hmmm..
Campfire: *as you look at the fire it begins to form images*
                              Peligir: I swear that just..
                              [DM] FLAMESTRIKE!
                              Peligir takes 46 Damage (Fire)

It was really cool cause everyone else was AFK and nobody saw but me.

Trust me, I've seen some bad stuff happening around a campfire on some other server. And people still hung out there despite the cold. I still think it's the rural charm that attracts everyone, not to mention the existance of the campfire itself, a welcoming symbol.
I prepared Explosive Runes this morning.
