  • Holy Custom Skills Batman!

    I'm not even back in-game yet but I've been browsing the wiki and, man, even since just before SoZ came out (when I stopped playing) you guys have added more custom content.

    <ego building portion of comments>
    This is the main reason I look forward to coming back to Sundren, you devs give a shit and do it right! Kudos thread aside - I've played on quite a few PWs since I started playing MotB and Sundren does it best, hands down - nuff said.

    <about to get denied portion>
    So... With all this custom content - specifically the custom skills - has any thought been given to increasing the base skill points of each class? Ya know, (example) instead of 4 + Int Modifier maybe 5 (or 6!) + Int?

    <logic>
    I can see where this could easily lead to balance issues. I guess that would make the next question: Is there anyway to modify it so you can only use the extra SP towards custom skills... Hmm, prolly still room for abuse.

    I suppose I've most likely answered my own question here, but what the hell - I'll look dumb and ask anyway. (and I really really hope this hasn't already been brought up, I searched the forums - hope I dinna miss it)

    Cheers!

    I've actually considered doing that, because I have personal gripes with the lack of skill-wise character customisation fighters, clerics, paladins and sorcerers have.

    However - besides deviating from PnP rules - doing so would make ALL existing characters invalid and it would require a vault wipe.

    So, probably better not :/

      That's one pro 4E has over 3.5 Kael, but I digress

          Pfeh, 4E has simplified too many things to make it worth investing in

            Clerics can wear full plate, have full spell progression, great saves, and decent BAB, those smug SOBs don't need skills. *crosses arms*

              You could have a Sun elven Mystic theurge of labelas enoreth or something? that would be awesome if you could manage the first five levels
              -.- But seriously just because you picked a sorceror, cleric or paladin (fighters already should have high INT because they arnt Barbarians and have knowledge of advanced weapons and tactics already) it doesnt mean you should neglect intelligence or skill points. Humans get 1 more per level anyway and not all player characters are orcs so there shouldnt be any need for more skills points really..

              ((edit)) Champion of Correlon Larethian PrC just for me plz *blows a kiss to Kaeldorn*

                Queer elves.. Pff.

                Clerics and especially paladins are pretty ability-starved, depending on what route they go.

                  Elves are 'cool' -.- regardless my interest in the class has nothing to do with having your dex in addition to str damage, being able to have a +6 Dex bonus with full plate at full base landspeed and being able to spring attack wearing all of it. Did you know elven courtblades are 1d10 two handed 18-20/2 AND finessable? *ends his gnomish tirrade*

                  Paladin get cool custom spells on Sundren so I think its pretty balanced

                    I actually want to implement Elven Courtblades and Elven Thinblades. But I need to figure out how to handle the finesse first.

                    Dex/Str-adding spells are spoiling my food for thought.

                        There are catches to this Clerics have full plate, moderate life moderate AB.. and to keep compettive with fighters they have to have a wide verity of buff spells, to keep competive with casters they have to lose alot of their other functionality. dont get me wrong, the Nwn incarnations are a bit broken, but they dont excell at any task that other classes would, they are great from a soloing perspective, and a support task in groups (( which I believe was their intent)) but in a group enviorment they are fairly balanced

                          One spell makes a cleric into a warrior: Divine Power!

                          it can be extended too. A fifth level spell to make your village vicar into a juggernaut of destruction? Ohh yes!

                            One spell that lasts for a nice short time on a server where you cant rest often:P its great in a pinch, but not something you can keep running to always have that nice warrior status, even extended it doesnt last long enough to really be a viable full time regular buff (( for very obvious reasons lol)) Its like saying devine favor is huge ab and damage bonus for a level 2 (even extended) spell

                            Guess we are running off topic here, if you want to go back and forth PM me, love a good discussion over stuff:-)

                              Perhaps your right; paladins and clerics could use some skillpoints.

                              Things like sense motive and knowledge: religion are nice to have for all those RP situations where your piety 'should' shine through!
