  • Armor/clothing appearence changeing system.

THis is something ive wanted for a long time in NWN2 generally beucase i loved the way i could customize my armor back in NWN1.

And it happens i stumbled upon a server that has a working appearance crafting system. I dunno what nsystem it is but it would be a nice addition to Sundren.

We already used to use it (long before that server even existed), disabled for various reasons.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Saulus is right. It caused all kinds of problems. However, there is still a way to customize your armor and/or weapons.

If you win Rper of the month or come in second place, you can have one of your currently obtained items modified in appearance to your liking. Sometimes this takes time to set up, as only a few of us know how to do it, but does offer an opportunity to create a unique look.

Couldn't you sort of make it in the toolset and email it to one of you guys? It's pretty easy to do. . .

No, because then the RPotM reward would be worthless

Not to mention there would be HUNDREDS of requests flooding in for custom appearance items. DMs have quite enough to do already

Yeah, but then the DM team would be swarmed by various requests of this sort.

They would need to import it in, make sure they can find the content inside the module without overly cluttering the item list, and then provide the items while making a check to see that the item replaced and the replacing item indeed have the same stats.

It appears that overlong, its irritating to do this. A DM could be getting 5 requests an evening for such (Sundren veterans walk around with 4 characters, and new characters crop up with regularity) which would fill perhaps an hour of his available time to get all settled if he's quick... time the DM could have had devoted to other things.

For reference, though, it's generally easier to create the items inside a toolset and create a small dummy module in which the desired items in question can be made available to be picked up. Then, a dummy character can be created, and this character can pick up the items before being exported. Then, the .bic file of this dummy character can be sent to the staff.

This procedure can make it much easier for the DMs, whom I believe can use the dummy character sent from their local vault (they still have access to it for their custom NPCs) to spawn the dummy character in-game. Seeing that the custom items are all conveniently in the character's inventory rather than inside a very very long item list, it makes the transfer much, much easier to do.

Umm. Okay, it was sort of late when I posted that but I actually meant for the RPOTM to do the toolset work on it then send it to the staff to put in the mod. I get the points though. It would be able to be exactly what the player wanted in terms of appearance though. Then again, not everyone knows how to make stuff either. . .

I shouldn't post stuff late at night.

I don't know about any of you guys But I'm very picky about how my PC looks. If its not the most importaint thing its close. I easy give up a more benificial item for one that looks better or fits my PCs "style". Often time I run around with diffrent outfits for various occasions. As an example., My char Aniewen is wearing glasses she could easly ware the head band that give her a spell slot but then her "look" wouldnt be the same.
                Maybe I'm just wierd..

No, I agree. A look matters a lot to me, even sometimes to the detriment of buff items. It kills me that you have to win RPotM to have a custom appearence item, but dems the breaks.

When I first started looking through this whole PW gig, I played on a server for about a week (god awful one, I don't even remember the name) where they had an NPC that for a reasonable cost could change the appearence of each item you equipped. The items only had about three or four choices, but you could really make some distinctive looks.

If anything, I'd like to see that in Sundren, someday. And it's purely for selfish reasons (being that I'm not around consistantly enough to impress enough people for an RPotM nod)

The thing you don't hear about on other servers that use this crafting plugin is how many exploits there are for duping items, and how many performance issues they cause. The plugin used to do this is a hack, and as such comes with a lot of baggage.

In Sundren we prefer to prevent cheating than to have a feature that can't be fully implemented.

The thing about custom appearances has one downside. Ofcourse there is nothing nicer than to have a character which looks exactly like you imagine yourself being while playing the character, but it most often also leads to 90% of the server being cloaked in plain black :P

From necromancers to assassins to even goodly clerics most often tend to favour black over all friends. I remember a game which I shall not name now, but it had dyes implemented so that people could color characters. At first there were basic colors of red green blue etc. and after a while around 100+ new color combinations were implemented and people loved it. Then came a day when black was added as one of the colors and suddenly 50% of the servers population was walking around pitch black... it was stupid. Same seems to be the case on a few other PW (that had appearance changer) I stumbled upon while waiting for my SoZ to arrive to play Sundren :P

I personally would just favour alternate costumes such as sundren mostly has, you just gotta find them. Though I wouldn't mind seeing larger variety of outfit/color combinations on a single specified npc (like the tailor near the thayan enclave). Maybe add all manner of commoner outfits with color identifiers in their name for all the colors there are. But to do it only for the items with no real value other than looks (such as the 0 armor clothings and maybe just different colored leather armors and hide suits and plates, leaving you to enchant them if you wish for them to be special instead of just changing your all time favourite robes of the archmage to black robes)

There are Fine and Masterwork armors for sale at the Dwarf armor shop (forget the name) in the Trade Tier. He has several different types of armors for sale. Yes, you will have to spend the stags to find the one you like. Basic black/dark is available.
