  • Flintlock rifles / pistols

    That's the jist of it. Flintlock guns. Pistols, rifles, you know..

    Get the Three Musketeer's goin :P

    Maybe have them be a d10 die, simple weapons? Since anyone can use a gun. Point and fire, easy as piiieeeee

    I think there are models out there for them. And bullets are already in the game :P

    And maybe have pistols you can hold duelwield.. for fun. :3

    I feel like this would be an item that would be tinker specific. if they did put it in i don't think it would be a simple item because everyday people wouldn't know how to power and use flintlock guns. Neat Idea though. Wouldn't mind rolling a tinker if this was an option, but the work would probably outweigh the benefits.

      Hmmm... Personally I'm not a fan of this. Why not just use a crossbow?

        Flintlock pistols and rifles are stated in the D&D manuals atleast, I believe a pistol is something like d8 and rifle is d10 making them roughly the same as crossbow and heavy crossbow. Since the server tries to follow PnP thats prolly how they'd work.

        They are concidered Exotic weapons, one profiency for each type of gun. Using them isn't as simple as you'd think. (Have you even tried to shoot a gun? I bet you'd have a hard time hitting a target thats only 50m away). The only things concidered simple are usually something ANYONE can pick up from the ground, know how it works and use it as a weapon right away.

        Like Allielliot said, don't think you'd know how to load on either, let alone know you'd need gunpowder to load them. And even if you did know gunpowder you prolly wouldnt know the right amount and would just blow up your gun and your face while trying

        Other than that, afaik. pistols don't exist in forgotten realms campain settings. (gunpowder might, as well as some sort of bombs, maybe in kara-tur) So implementing such things would ruin the lore people have been working so hard to get atleast somewhat believeable (location, people, timeline).

          If I remember my books right, smoke powder weapons were coming upon the scene on the sword coast for the last couple of (in game) Decades, not as much from Kara Tur, but from Trade with the Isles of Lantan. The official use of Arquebuses militarily was recorded during Amns Conquring/Taming of Maztica.

          But still the weapons were rare and not used too often, while flashy and loud, they still have this problem of backfiring on a roll of 1, and a roll of 2-3 jams the gun with the % of it firing a couple rounds after**. From a technological standpoint, the crossbow still proves to be a more reliable weapon at this point in the FR timeline... Besides I'm sure the developers have enough on their hands as is.

          **I'm remembering back to second edition rulings on it, when they were being introduced into the FR. Who knows what 3e & 4e are doing to them.

            As much fun as it would be to bust a cap in someone's ass... this is an example of a technology I don't like seeing in the realms... even despite how horribly useless it is at this stage.
            The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

              Meh, I like the idea. The guns on PnP are fine, 1d6 of damage, the same as a crossbow.
              The problem is... it's ubertechnology, and ubertech demands uberprices and new feats. Like... 10.000 gp for a +0 weapon and with all the inconveniences, like the jamming. And feats to counter the jamming or haste the unjamming process.

                Someone can correct me if I"m wrong, but there are other technologies in the 'realms' that are past the point of medieval technology (depending on who you talk to the middle ages ended with the fall of Constantinople in the late 1400's or sometime with the discovery of the new world). Full sailing ships capable of sailing against the wind for example are a later invention. A flintlock/wheellock weapon would have an incredibly high fail rate, especially in a nice dry environment like Sundren.

                  Personally I hate the idea of introducing guns into the game. Not so much from a realism point of view, but more the potential for damned awful RP that goes with it. For some reason whenever some guys hold a gun they have the overwhelming urge to act like an ass. Sundren doesn't need any Wyatt Eyarps lmao

                      You just don't need a gun to be an ass, just 15 monk levels.

                        As a big fan of steampunk and the elements of such that you can find in such story worlds as Warcraft and Warhammer, it should come as no surprise that I like the idea of old style guns. I especially like the idea of them being exotic weapons.

                        However, despite all that, all the drawbacks mentioned have a good point as well. Guns can indeed inspire poor rp. And while I have enough faith in the Sundren populace to believe that would not happen, why chance it?

                        There is also the fact that guns are very, VERY RARE. The smoke powder to make such weapons are ONLY in Lantan and a few small parts of the Kura-Tur continent; plus the materials to make the powder are not exactly infinite.

                        It's just not worth it in the end. Just save the smoke powder for Lantan bombs and fireworks, which are just as cool as guns.

                        Or you can wait til 4th edition. Ten bucks says they become far more common by that time period.

                        Just for the hell of it, this is what I'd make the stats on guns:
                        Pistols= 1d10 dmg piercing 19-20 threat 2X multiplier
                        Rifles = 1d12 dmg piercing 20 threat 3X multiplier
                        Both are exotic weapons and fire only once a round without Rapid Reload
                        Wish spell?! What is this? ****ing Dragonball Z?!

                          I like the ideas in some ways, but before this goes to far I'd like to point out that Saulus has already said no. ANd that is pretty much the final word as far as sundren goes. So, as much as we can talk about things that we would like about it. I would steer clear of anyone else trying to argue for why we show try to put it in. that being said...duel pistals = Fantastic.

                            Actually Guns are quite outspread in the Forgotten realms just not along the sword coast and the guns arnt as we would regonize them as guns. Smokepowder artillary exists to aswell as demolitions and stuff like that...humans just dont use them because they are either too afraid of them or they simply cant get their hands on them..It is primarily Dwarves and gnomes that use them..

                            The most our spread use of Smokepower (still not very much) is Smokepower Satchels and Grenades. Guns and cannons are still very untable...more or less like the 14th century handcannons...makes alot of noise and smoke are horribly inaccurate and have a rather unfortunate tendency to blow up in a hail of shrapnel that injurs or kills not only the user but people beside him/her aswell.

                              Are you sure about that? Because the biggest users of smoke powder are the Gondar, a regilous sect that is primarily human.

                              Most associate the weird kind of technology you find from Lantan with gnomes, but that nation too is primarily human. In fact there are probably more crazy human inventors and wielders of special mechanical contraptions and gunpowder in Faerun than gnomish.

                              I'm kind of a fan of the whole old gun thing, but there's just something about a good ol' crossbow that I find appealing as well. I kinda wish you did not need Rapid Reload for them though.
