  • A hanging offence

    In the various town squares around Sundren town criers and spokesmen repeat a message sent out from the Legion;

For the grievous crimes of Treason, association and membership with an outlawed and seditious group, attempting to spread and encourage unrest the man known as Frederick Einhoff is sentenced to death by hanging.

For the crimes of Treason, spreading dissent, and harbouring a member of a treasonous and outlawed group the bard Simon D'monde is sentenced to death by hanging.

For harbouring and associating with those guilty of Treason the bards Alan Q'main and Dorothy Parks will face public humiliation in the pillory, seizure of all worldly goods and permanent exile from the lands of Sundren.

For resisting arrest, taking part in seditious discussion and loitering with intent the following are to face public humiliation at the pillory, and on release pay a fine of 10,000 Staggs within 30 days. Failure to pay within the due time will lead to further punishment.

    Mary L'bonne, formerly of Sestra.
    Geoff Fox, formerly of Sestra
    Tir Gaskwyne, of Sundren City.
    Elizabeth Aelfan, of Sundren City.
    Alexander D'wain, of Acquor.

During these troubling times the Legion is working hard for your safety and your future. Those who are found to be stirring unrest, attempting to undermine the government or threatening the continued peace within Sundren shall bear the full brunt of the law.

The bodies of those criminals hung for treason will be displayed at the city gates as a reminder that the Legion will not waver in its duty to protect the populace and as a warning to those who would seek to work against the true and lawful government.
It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do a little - Do what you can.
    Sydney Smith.

The Red Blade Paladin walks firmly to her guild hall at the Sundren Trade Tier, as she steps inside she salutes her brothers and sisters within the ranks of the order and takes her way to the commanding room.

Once inside the room, she address her words to the first spotted high officer after salutting respectfully and all diciplined, standing in her usually military posture.

"Sir! Is this an authentic information?"
"Nothing is true, everything is permitted."

Any time Annie hears the criers, she looks ready to chew their hides or strangle them - not because the news are any of their fault, but because the REAL culprits are not to be had.

What has this vale come to if you are going to get hung for speaking your mind? Perhaps Fenton has been right all along.... those people did NOTHING wrong!

She does not hesitate to tell anyone who asks what is fouling her mood so, exactly how brutally those Legionnaires manhandled the helpless commoners, and that all the bard Simon did, indeed, was talk. None of the travelling troupe or the spectators did anything in the least, as far as Annie is concerned, to warrant this kind of rough treatment.

She also ventures to suggest that while she had considered the man's tales about the Legion's shortcomings to be wildly exaggerated at first, the Legionnaires actions that his speech prompted seems to have proven him at least partially right.

You'd think it was HIM who punched people and cuffend them about, not those Legion soldiers, she mutters under her breath.

"At least they left them alive, and did not kill them like the Veritas does without prejudice" Osclow had said. Well... apparently they weren't going to leave them alive.

As much as she dislikes staying in the city, she heads for the city watch to have a word with the officer on duty. There is still the small chance that this Seargeant was acting on his own.
Annaleen Wiltenholm-There's always something to smile about.
Chani Kalera- Intimidation is the new diplomacy. *looms*
Eleanor "Bloody Elle" Lark - Why is the rum always gone?
Yolanda Brown - If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. But unless life also gives you water and sugar, your lemonade is going to suck.
      Astrid Hammerhand - Och!

Joalill, after hearing the news of the veritas cohorts verdict grins slightly.

The flagrant actions of the legion are not a surprise to me. For those in power will do ANYTHING not to loose it.

At first she thought it may have been a ruse, a play to have the people disbelieve the dogma that the legion is a noble leadership.

The legion has shown its true colors, and when in, sometimes both sides have innocent citizen as collateral. Perhaps the Veritas have some validity to their words. I must whole-heartidly consider this.

For she was there at this gathering, listening with scrutinity to the propaganda being so deftly dealt to the commoners. She was there when the legion arrested many humans for speaking their mind. She stood there invisible while the legion beat a man over the head because he disagreed with the legion's behavior. And now for speaking about what these humans felt was right in their heart they are to be hanged with prejudice.

Joalill walks away from the crier, unphased and seriously contemplating the issue.

"The problems that the Veritas causes this land are innumerable to mention. They seek nothing more than to destabilize the government, if they want to change the way things are done, why not work with those in power, instead of trying to throw the valley into chaos and further strife. ... No, I don't agree with the sentences, but those are the laws we have to live with, if we want them changed, then we have to do it through the right channels. Anarchy and sedition is not the way to make past grievances right."

Cybil keeps an eye on the people around the pillary to make sure no one gets to overzealous with the humiliation. "Making them more humiliated than they already are is only going to drive them into the arms of the people the legion wants to keep them away from, if you want to help them, offer them compassion, and help them understand why the men who where hung faced the law they sought to disrupt."

Shiv pays little attention until a name is mentioned stopping him in his tracks. As he realizes it's an announcement and not someone trying to get his attention he finds a nice place to stand.

Sipping from a bottle he comments loud enough for only those standing close by.

"intrest'n...tis public hang'n we can watch? *with a smirk and a shrug* stand against powers of the land...an what ya expect?"

*continues his drinking and listens to folk*

Upon hear the news Orlin hangs his head with a heavy sigh. "An' they call us barbarous an' uncivilized." He wonders to himself what the other druids have to say on the matter. Turning from the village he heads forth once again to seek the wisdom of the grove.

A hooded figure watches as the bodies are put on display at the city gates. He stands there for some time watching the guards, taking note of how many are posted there. As he is leaving he can be heard saying, "Next thing you know the Legion will be hanging elves just for being elves!" After saying this the hooded elf quickly departs the area and heads towards the Crossroads.
