  • Wolfs Attack by the Cross Roads

The old farmer starts to curse when the great rain drop hits his huge nose: "Damned rain!", he looks up to the sky but when he gets another hit directly in his right eye he lowers his head to avoid another insidious drop attack.

"By the Umberlee, how should I let the cow graze when that ...", he suddenly stops and stares at the great blood pool by his foot. His head quickly straightens and the left eye aims the barn door. It's open. Wide open. It seems like it would welcome its regular owner in the same way as the fallen angels welcome their Lord.

The farmer takes his knobstick and fastens his moves. He carefully peeps into the barn and when he notices the scared cow and from the fear almost dead horse he gets frightened: "O no!"
"Wolves!", flashes in his mind when he spots the rest of his two loved pigs "Telma" and "Luisa". He makes some few steps inside the barn and kneels by the pigs pen to try to look for the trails. Suddenly, the halfdead chicken appears in front of his eyes and attacks him with full madness like it would defend itself. The farmer slowly catches the chicken, lifts it up and breaks its neck. Sighs. He gets up holding the chicken when he spots the strange bites under the chickens plume. The farmer starts to frown and curses loudly: "Wolves!"
"I fool!", says reproachfully to himself.
"I'm the dumbest man in the whole world!", kicks the door and breath heavily for a while.
"I knew it! I knew I forgot to do something yesterday!", says sadly and watches the open door like it would be him, who killed his animals. After a moment he sighs again and slowly closes the door leaving the scared stock in the barn. He lets to drop the rain at his depressed head and turns back to his home to tell the family some bad news. With no doubt, in the winter they can expect a visit. The hunger will make them a company.

*Calandra glances at Sondra as they hear the rumours*

What's the chance? *as Calandra smiles at Sondra*

That must have been Ball? Remeber that other night?

*Calandra pats Sondra on the shoulder* So let's see how that bet comes off, shall we? You said you can get Ball to behave? Wasn't it?

*Calandra grins at Sondra again admiring her new friend's resolve*

The young woman wakes up. She drowsily turns to her husband and watches him a while. Then she lightly shakes his shoulder: "Honey, honey you snore.", says with the sweet drowsily voice.
        "Honey?"
, touches his face with love.

        *CRACK* *
        CRACK*
sounds the crackling noise from outside. She turns to window keeping her hand on her husbands face.

*CRACK* *CRACK* sounds in the night rain again.

"Honey!", the woman lightly slaps her husband.
"Wha-what's happening Amy?", asks evidently confused man.
"Amy?!!", the mans face gets pretty damned strong hit.
"Who's Amy?!!", asks Laureen angry whilst giving him meaning look.
"Ow ow darling Am ... Laureen ...", tries the shaken man orient in the situation.

        *CRACK* *CRACK*
saves the man's cheek before the next attack. Anthony quickly gets up and goes to the window. His young wife slowly sits on the bed and looks at him.

*CRACK* *CRACK* sounds outside whilst the chicken cluck in deadly fear. In a moment the night is quiet and only the rain drops drum on the house's roof.

The young farmer peeps out of the window and says with the scared voice: "Wolves!"
"WHO THE HELL IS AMY?!!", cups off the sharp voice the silence of the rainy night.

Two stalwart men lean over the lacerate cow letting the rain fall directly at their backs. The younger tries to keep his torch burning whilst the elder watches the cow's injuries:
"She's heavy wounded.", says the elder man seriously, "She won't wait to see the morning.", adds quickly and sighs.
"You're right.", sighs the younger, "End her suffering."
"Yes.", nods the elder man and quickly cuts the cow's throat.

The heavy rain wets through the woodland pasture whilst the both men are trying to find the second cow in the darkness of this night.
"There!", points the younger man something near the woods.
"Where?", tries the elder foccus the object.
"There, on the border, by the fence uncle.", answer the younger man and mends his pace.

"Damned!", swears uncle like a bosun, "They ate up half of the cow!"
"Look!", points his nephew strange bite on the cows neck.
The elder man turns to his nephew and kneels down to the cows neck. He looks at the bite for a long time and then says with hate: "Wolf!"
"Yes.", nods his nephew consistently and sighs whilst the rain peacefully washes the mother earth.

The old woman tries to hide beneath the lean-to but the rain drops can find her even there somehow.
"Kitty, kitty, kitty ...", turns she around with sigh.
"Kitty, kitty, kitty ...", repeats the old woman again with voice full of sorrow for her little friend.

The dark night reaches its climax but the rain does not care whether it is night or not and the heavy drops fall down without slightest interruption. The drenched coat on the old woman's shoulders shows, that she's looking for her little pet more then it could be healthy for her.
"Miaow, miaow.", sounds the thin voice of to death scared cat by the woman's foot.
"O my god you're wet to the skin.", lifts she the cat with love, "Where have you been in such a weather? Hmm? Come, come, we will dry you off, right?", smiles at the cat like mother at her loved child.
"Miaow.", answers her animal friend happily and tries to hide under her coat.

The old woman hurries back home.
"We will give you bowl fuuull of milk, riigh uh uuUUUH ... OOO MY GOOOD!", shouts she out and freezes like the rock in the Shield Mountain. Some terrible giant creature stares directly at her. Its eyes are full of fury, the bloodied face and arms express the inhuman bestial hunger.
"MIAOOOW!", disapears the cat in the night rain like bolt in the storm.
"BHAAHHAALL HUHHUUNGHHER", breaks the beast's roar the silence. The creature furiously throws out some bloodied fretted bones and starts to chase the cat in the darkness.
"No no NOOO!", the old woman suddenly breathes again and turns quickly back: "NOOO ... ITCHY RUN RUN!", screams with the fear.

The old woman is surrounded by the vilagers.
"Not a wolf ...", she sobs unhapily, "... it ... it was a werwolf!", almost cries and touches her chest.
The vilagers murmur excitedly and almost like the one man turn back to the fretted bones. In the morning sun they look at the bloody rests of the night feast with anxiety. One of them slowly lifts up a bone and examines it. After a long time he says: "It's not the wolf, but something ...", stares at the bone without the next words and heavily gulps. His face says that the old woman is right.
The sudden silence breaks the vilager's conversation.
"It can be anybody of us!", says the older farmer after some minutes and subconsciously touches his knife. The growing fear and distrust can be felt from every look of the Cross Road villagers.
