  • Rumors Surrounding the Troll in City Hall

Many rumors have started circulating regarding the troll's rampage in Port Avathyr:
    • The troll came out of the sea, through the sewers undetected.
    • The troll was actually a wizard.
    • Logan shapeshifted into a troll.
    • This shady "Eyes of Sundren" character plotted the entire thing as a heist, and is covering up his mess with tall tales.
    • The city hall was a bloody mess, green and red everywhere!
    • The troll swallowed the poor secretary whole; apparently there was no blood.
    • In the chaos, the troll destroyed the office entirely.
    • The recorded names of the Anderson Act participants were destroyed.
    • The mayor was actually behind the entire plot, taking valuable records from the hall to sell to the Thayans.

Hano moves through the Port of Avanthyr and collects all of the various rumors in his journal. After a few hours of doing so he finds himself content with the flood of various rumors recorded. Finding a quiet place by the lighthouse, Hano sits down and begins to compare the recorded rumors to the newspaper and then to a letter holding information on the incident, writing down his thoughts and ideas to each rumor.

    • The troll came out of the sea, through the sewers undetected. -- Highly unlikely.

    • The troll was actually a wizard. -- Very possible, but who? A wizard that is either strong allies with Logan or greatly opposes the Legionaires... Who then, I wonder?

    • Logan shapeshifted into a troll. -- No, no. Definitely not.

    • This shady "Eyes of Sundren" character plotted the entire thing as a heist, and is covering up his mess with tall tales. -- Possible. There is little known about this man, but I have no good reason to believe or even disbelieve this.

    • The city hall was a bloody mess, green and red everywhere! -- Need to be sure that I investigate the city hall.

    • The troll swallowed the poor secretary whole; apparently there was no blood. -- This rumor contradicts the earlier statement. Also, I have reasons to believe that this 'secretary' is not dead, though, will not be found; for very different reasons.

    • In the chaos, the troll destroyed the office entirely. -- Definitely going to check out the City Hall after this.

    • The recorded names of the Anderson Act participants were destroyed. -- Destroyed or stolen...? This bit of information could shed a lot of light on the nature of the people responsible.

    • The mayor was actually behind the entire plot, taking valuable records from the hall to sell to the Thayans. -- Nnnngh. I don't even want to consider that. From what I can guess, this was all planned around him being absent. He likely had no knowledge of this happening up until after it did.

After analyzing the data and then sorting out his thoughts while noting them on paper, Hano claps his journal shut and rises to his feet. He peers over the port from his high ground at the lighthouse, blowing out a long breath of air as he does so.

"Right. I need to head to the City Hall and find out what damage was done during the incident. I also need to be sure to ask about the papers -- If they were destroyed within the office, or if they are simply missing and claimed as destroyed. Then I'll have a word with this Charlie character and then begin my hunt for Jane."

Stepping through his diminsion door a few feet from Hano (far enough not to be an immediate victim of that massive weapon) Larando greets the Paladin with a playful smile. He throws up his hands in defense as he says, "I know, I know. Only light and healing spells in town."

Larando continues on not giving the paladin a chance to burst into an arrest before giving the wizard a chance to speak. "It seems there was at least enough to these rumors to draw your attention. We share an interest here. It would appear a rampant troll would be detremintal to this city. However, I'm not convinced a rampant troll is what we have here. I've studied a few trolls, and never have I seen one so subtle as to sneak into a town."

Larando studies Hano closely as he speaks prepared to diminsion door out as quickly as he had come in. Seemingly in no present danger of arrest, he continues, "I have a vested intrest in rumors of a troll or even a shapeshifted mage turning a town upside down." This last statement gains a frown from his own face, but he presses on in hopes that Hano will not grow too impatient with him. "There are times when I find need of using a shapeshifting spell. And, of course, the most useful is a troll form when I am away from town. So, I thought that perhaps I can offer some arcane insight into this investigation and maybe a little help along the way."

The mage breathes deeply waiting for Hano to respond to him. He catches himself thumbing at his spellbook in his satchel and quickly pulls his hand away as to not appear a threat in any way to the paladin. The mage's senses are hightened by his excitement to the point of feeling his pores leaking sweat on his brough. His only thought is, if he so much as moves, I'm out of here. The dimension door spell rests at the tip of his tongue as he prepares an escape.

Hano immediately drops his journal from his hand as the dimensional gate opens, quickly clutching onto the scabbard around his back. In a single quick motion he brings the scabbard to his front, wrapping his right's digits around the protruding hilt -- Ready to draw his blade.

"Mizrahi..? No, Mizrahi left -- The Bla..?"

His wandering thoughts were set to a halt when watching the figure stepped from the dimensional gate speaking in a familiar voice, and an equally familiar yet annoying tone.

"Larando," the paladin calls out in acknowledgment to the wizard in a harsh tone.

His eyes shift to his left, noting the distance from Avanthyr and how they're no longer within the city limits. He made no mention of this, figuring it would be better to have some unspoken leverage against the wizard. Just in case.

His eyes snap back to the robed wizard, taking in every detail of his posture and nervous gestures.

"The answer to all of this lies within two people. Jane, and then the man who knowingly or not is at the center of all of this mess -- Logan," Hano states while easing the grip on his hilt.

"He claims to have lost his memory -- All that came before his resurrection and imprisonment. Convenient at best, but we need someone to scry his mind to prove this true or not. I also believe that his memories are key to discovering the identity of this Jane."

Hano releases the grip on his hilt, bringing the scabbard to his side. "...You can do this, right?"

After Hano is alone again, a grey cloaked and hooded figure with a symbol of an eye on his chest approaches Hano. A sealed parchment is handed to him along with a brief phrase. "The Eyes of Sundren have information regarding this event." With that, the grey cloaked figure disappears into the shadows.

Rumor has it that a few other prominent defenders of Sundren received similar visits.

Lauan pushed through the brush of the trees, and made way up the steep hill towards one of the most secluded spots in Sundren. She carried a basket full of food and water, towards the mouth of a cave.

As she approaches, she glances inside the dark cave, looking about for a few moments, until a scruffy halfling peels from the darkness with a grin on his face. Lauan returns the smile and takes a seat next to him to enjoy their meal.

A new rumor can be heard in the Port taverns:

"I hear this Eyes of Sundren guy is being sought by the Legion. Person of interest, my ass--he's a suspect, even if they don't say it. Apparently, they think he's some guy who came INTO the hall and was friendly with that fink, Logan. That's what the witnesses say anyway. Remember Charlie, that hard luck case that got fired? Damn shame, nice guy.

Makes you wonder though. I don't buy for a minute that it was a real troll. Sounds like it was all a big plot to rescue that rotten hin. Wonder who that Eyes guy is and why his name keeps turning up with this investigation?"

A new, prominent rumor has arisen among the military. Having conducted the investigation and "clean-up" of the scene at city hall, the soldiers' rumor mill may have some truth to it:

"Last troll I saw was out in Viridale when them Talonites was running rampant. I know most folk believe it's a wizard or something, but this troll actually bit three people on-scene. I don't know any wizard with the stomach for that.

Could be them poison-lovers are back. Heck, the shadow-lovers are, we know that much. Damnable evil folk, there's just no method to them. You can't argue with that kind, there's no logic behind these zealots of evil gods."
