  • the New Black Stones

A rumor begins to circulate and grow concerning the new Large Black Stones that seem to make your gaze swim.

The rumor states that these stones are being placed throughout the city and outlying areas in order for the triumverate or some rumors state Sundren governement, to better control the movements and minds of the Sundren people.

It is rumored that when queried, triumverate members and government members alike state that the stones are not anyones business but theirs.

A crowd gathers outside the Temple of the Triumverate as a screaming mage is lead gently away for medical treatment. Onlookers describe him as looking like he ran into a brick wall. Bloody nose, black eyes and broken fingers. The mage is near incoherant in his screams, but one phrase is easily recgnized thru the wailing.
    "Dimensional Anchor".
What that means is beyond any commoners ability to guess, but it seems to be the mage's most often said words.

A man in the crowd looks sagely at the mage and then addresses members of the crowd.

"It is true, the stones are being put in place to control all of us! You see the proof there, the mage was trying to escape the stone's influence and look what happened to him!"

The man eyes the crowd for a second, then melts into it, disappearing quickly.

"Bloody nose?.. Smashed in face?" Osclow asked with concern as he took another sip of his wine.
"Yeah." replied Fenton, shaking his head. "Kept saying something about a magical or dimensional anchor or something too. He looked like he'll be fine though. Just as you predicted, there was someone trying to rile up the masses too."
The bard smirked "And did you get a good look at him?"
"Couldn't." Fenton replied. "I'm pretty sure it was not you-know-who though. Too tall. I doubt I was recognized, but this guy was likely expecting someone to be looking his way eventually. Most likely a pro. I think some of the people bought into his bull****, Some didn't."
"A pro perhaps, but this seems a little desperate."
"And everything YOU have done isn't?"
"Come now Fenton. I would like to believe the tide is slowly turning back into our favor."
Fenton sighed. "When are you going to give this up Osclow? Okay, maybe the Triumvirate are not the corrupt fools these idiots are trying to make them out to be, but they are still using you, and they're gonna get you killed."
"I already told you Fenton... I could not face her if I turned my back on this land now."
"And you believe it would be easy for ME to face her if something happens to you?"
The bard did not answer. He merely downed the rest of his wine and went to work, in time doing what he could to spread a few theories amongst the people, in the guise of a traveling illusionist supposedly just passing through Sundren. Such was the tale given to the curious at least.

"Of course that man was right! It IS a dimensional anchor. Did you not hear about the shadows that attacked the city?! I have only been here a short while and know about them. They arise from portals. These black stones should, if they work, disrupt the very essence of these shadows. It is the perfect protection."

The bard only hoped there was not too great of difference between what was actual fact and what was his attempt to sound like an intelligent scholar before the few he spoke to. Thank Deneir he learned a few things about such creatures as those damned shadows back home in Navil.

"Curse this crowd of unbathed bodies!" Larando muttered a little louder than he'd meant to as he pushed through the throng trying to leave the city. He was mostly oblivious to what was actually going on as he wandered down the road lost in thought...at least until he heard the screaming. He whipped his head to the origin of the words only to the dismay of seeing a bludgeoned mage being "gently" manhandled by the triumvirate. Someday they'll learn to leave arcane mages alone, he thought bitterly to himself.

He dismissed it as something he had no control over until he heard the words "diminshional anchor." To say that something tickled at the back of his mind about that would be a gross understatement. As some crazed lunatic started ranting aloud, the cowd looked his way and Larando took the oppertunity to get a closer look at the screaming man. He began waving his arms in a silent spell of invisability. As he vanished, he moved away from the crowd and in the direction the man had been taken.

Elly stares through a window from inside the temple, she scans all the crowd and sighs tired.

"Why people here are so dumb? I mean, how can they believe we did put those things around the city?"

The paladin of Torm who was with Elly helping her on her duties answered.

"You must be patient with the people Lady Ellenhill, they don't have the will we have, they don't understand things the way we do, they don't have the same guidance of the gods like we have. Understand that we are their only hope in these days full of darkness around, we shall be their light."

Elly gave the paladin a nod and a slightly smile then they got back to their duties.
