A flurry of rumors springs up in the wake of a chilling cry from the direction of the farm at the Crossroads and the carrying of a blanket-shrouded corpse into the Temple of Helm by a party of well-known adventurers and church members.
The crowd that gathered at the Trading Post, as well as the involved adventurers, know that the revealed Banite, lawyer and benefactor to the poor Elric Gallow visited the trading post, where he was confronted by Tormite Tamryn Jorandur. She issued him a challenge to single combat, which he accepted, at the nearby Crossroads.
Those closer to the duel witnessed a drawn-out battle with blessings and magic on both sides, which was eventually won by Tamryn, who subdued her enemy. Before he could be taken into custody to face charges, however, a rain of stones and fire from above killed him. Shortly afterwards, an apparition formed over his body as Bane claimed his soul, preventing resurrection and oddly preserving his corpse.
The body was turned over to Abbot Proskus at the Temple of Helm in Sundren City, to be guarded against foul play and either resurrected to face trial or destroyed.
