  • A Vicious Brood

Rumor has it that a large group of adventurers went into Veridale forest to look for a missing child. When found this child appeared unharmed but spoke of a "night hunter" who called to him, filling his dreams with carnivorous viciousness and luring him into the forest.

As the sun set and the moon rose, the boy broke his human form, tearing and twisting until a young werewolf remained. The werewolf immediately attacked, managing to bite several people before being slain...

Drives them ol' northern boys flat wild
And he many go to Hell or even Vancouver
    He'll always be Alberta's child"

    "Were they killed?..."
"I don't think so mister Osclow. At least my dad didn't say they were."

The minstrel tosses a coin to the child with a thanks. A troubled look becomes incised into his features.

    "This is certainly not good....."

      in the tavern...

Cade leaned back in his chair as the commoners listen on intently...

"...and then on bit me on my arm! They did! I almost died!" Cade now getting very excited stands from his seat and waves his arms around wildly.

"Blood dripped from every slash and cut on my body... those warewolfs are mean I say... but I made it to this place, full of talking animals, and trees.

Someone there called the Keeper saved me though." Cade moves his sleeve up to show the bit mark. His eyes widen with astonishment as he sees no bite mark of any kind.

"Aw com'on... your just fakin" pipes up one of the younger crowd. "Im not!" shouts Cade, "Just as the whole group lay dead, I escaped only to meet face to face with a GIANT wolf". Cade now standing on the table shouting.

"The wolf was THIIIIIS big, twice my size easly" he waves again with his arms. "Her eyes were black as night. Her face all blue like she had been in the cold way too long..."

One of the women chimed in at this, "How do you know it was a she?" Cade shot her a look that would kill... "Trust me" he said, "When there THAT big, you know!"

The whole crowd eruped at the that remark and an old man in the back said someting about buying a round for everyone... Cade drank deeply, and told more stories, each one greater than the last.

*Tellesian sits cross legged in front of the fire at the Viridale Border Fort and thinks back on the recent events with the werewolves.*

Those damn stupid humans, tramping through the forest, tramping the vegetation and taking no heed to anything but their mission. I couldn't even track anything because they were so intent on moving fast and dying fast!

I still cannot believe that stupid idiot Jack attacked the werewolf. I knew we were surrounded the whole time and tried to warn Jack off, but no, he had to be stupid as usual and because of his actions, he got almost everyone killed. Of the ones that did survive, two were druids, one was the hin, and then me. Jack's carcass should have been left in the forest for the wolves to feed on because of his actions!

We could have easily bargained for saliva, that is what was so sad about the whole affair. Then, the humans start killing the wildlife! If the humans had not left when they did, I probably would have attacked them all. I am sure at least one of the druids would have sided with me. They were despoiling the forest, killing its creatures, and stirring the werewolves to a frenzy!

I would not be surprised if their actions bring the werewolves closer to civilization and more people begin to disappear.

*With that last thought, Tellesian crosses his legs in front of him and leans back, dozing in front of the warm fire.*

Braghuru watches silently, hid amidst the shrubs in the form of an inconspicuous badger. The one eyed human's actions proved only to enrage the pack, their vengence swift and decisive.
The bodies of the interlopers lay scattered amongst hills, a testament to the strength of the brood.

"Perhaps they can be persuaded to expel the humans from their lands....once and for all."

Turning, the hag leaves the killing fields, her laughter echoing across the glade.

Tis now the very witching time of night,
When churchyards yawn and hell itself breathes out
          Contagion to this world.
