  • The Dirgesinger

Mutters and talk have spread from the camp in the Sharahan Hills. The green fields have the rememants of skulls, bones, and horribly decomposeing flesh. A man described as haveing red eyes and black hair has been seen singing and playing his instruments to raise such creatures as Liches.
Sacrifice everything as the final darkness falls... in the end, all that awaits you is death. Only then will you understand - you've been following in my footsteps all along.
So come then, you heroes! Come in all your power and glory! For in the final hour, all must serve the one... true... king.

Whenever such a muttering would be heard by the large (but not as large as his usual companion) half-orc, Borbag, he would immediately berate the ones who spoke of the rumor... resulting in petty insults flung in both directions, along with magical theories that somehow 'prove beyond a doubt' that the commoners who believed the tripe were moron's whose bean had just rattled too hard in their heads.

Of course this did not stop the wizard from paying close attention to the scant details, all the better to investigate the rumor... There was much to be gained if it were true... and the townies of Sundren City had realized that without Uerick around, Borbag was not one to shoot off his mouth for long against threats of injury

Word has begun to be whispered that the so-called Dirgesinger has struck again, and continues to haunt the shadows with song and sorcery. Details have been scarce, but the talk might stir up something from more experienced, personally witnessed, individuals.

Found dead in the burned-out Viridale forest a few weeks after the survivors were able to sweep the area after the Bloodmaim offensive. Aside from his usual attire, an intricate music box was the only thing in his possession.

The onslaught began with a mysterious image on the ridge above the Sharahan Camp, yet a few moments later the fears were confirmed. A broken shell of what was once a loving mother and wife let our a wail that instantly petrified and killed two travelers. Yet Tamera and I kept up our wits long enough to banish the spirit and set her free once and for all.

After the bone chilling event Prospector Harris came to aid the fallen travelers, raising them from the dead with some scrolls. Yet not all was well after that, for a sorrowing song filled the hills in an unnatural way. Despite being rattled more than the rest of us, Tamera pushed on, and with her an army of willing travelers from various backgrounds joining the frey....

It was not long after we reached the largest hill in the area that Tamera fell to the ground, paralysized while fighting in her mind, mumbling of events I do not know of. This mental attack seemed to be coordinated with the goblins of the hills as they quickly rushed our position on the hill slaying several companions without mercy, yet we prevailed striking down all the vile creatures. Despite our efforts of defending Tamera, the dead goblins arised from their shallow graves to fight us once more, in a constant barage. Inbetween the waves of attackers, Tes arived on the hill and quickly tried to aid her friend through her mental war.

Without reinforcements, and our valient soldiers quickly falling to the undead scourge, we had to retreat. I hoisted Tamera over my shoulder and made haste for the camp near the lake as it would be used as our refuge, while the remaining travelers stayed behind covering our retreat. Once back at the camp and Tamera was secure, guarded and comforted by Tes, I returned to the Hill side, only to see many of the brave companions laying dead amoung the wake of corpses that now plagued the country side. Helping those who were alive I quickly brought them back to the camp to further defend against our unknown foes.

It was not long before night fell across the country side, and with it came a horde none of us were prepared for. The undead scourge lead only by songs of sorrow constantly attacked our camp, infesting some with disease, and striking fear into the hearts of many. But failure was not an option and we could no retreat anymore, yet it was a good day to die.
Though after countless waves of undead, goblins, and spectral horrors, we still stood standing. Even after being taunted by the man described in previous rumors, we swarmed him with a wrath unknown to man mortally wounding him, yet he escaped.....

The hours seemed like an eternity, but finally the attacks stopped, as did the mental war Tamera was having. We were low on supplies, and troops, so given the chance I escorted Tes and aTamera to the Temple of Tyr to leave them in better care than what we could of done for her in the field....

Tread carfully travelers for there is mystery abound, and death still lingers in the air. All is not what it seems....
