  • Ghosts of the Spine

Rumors circulate about dark shapes that move along the Spine. Massive in size, they can't be distinguished very well with the constant storms that rage among the snowy peaks. They move languidly, some say. Others swear that they fly low to the ground, like some sort of drake.

What most rumors agree though, is that they have a strange halo above their (supposed) heads as they move, causing the air above them to shimmer with otherworldly light.

And a rare, rare few have reported snatches of melancholy song, reverberating in their bones for the barest moments of listening.

Life is complex for one who seeks to hawk traditional dwarven ales in Sundren. Purely hold-based ales are made more simple by the unyielding stone that moderates the climate. For those whom must transport their wares, the mountain chill of the Spine is more than familiar to the dwarves, but few brewers have had to plan for both that and the humid forests of Ixis and it's thirsty Blackwood inhabitants. To say nothing of bandits and other threats.

A stout figure rests in Whurest after another eventful caravan passage, and scowls mightily as he hears of the rumors.

"By Thrar's tooth, that's the last thing I need. Ale is life, and needs chants of the same. Songs of the dead? That'll play all kinds of mischief with the brew if they catch me deliveries, most like."

Recuperating in the Whurest halls, ribs strapped and a bloodsoaked bandage still wrapped tightly around his temples, an Elf overheard some of the miners speaking of the "shadows".

Staring up at perfectly joined stone of the Dwarven ceilings, he silently ran this information over in his mind. A new force in the valley? Does this have any relation to the recent earthquakes? And, more importantly, what bearing will this have on his plans?

He grimaced as he sat up and swung his legs over the side of the unyielding infirmary bed. One thing was clear, things were moving at an accelerating pace, and he could no longer afford the time it would take to heal naturally. Stumbling out into the corridor, he called out to the nearest Exigo employee to fetch the healer.

Isabella crosses her legs in a lady-like manner while sitting on a sofa in front of a crackling fire in Wyntir Estate. She takes yet another swig of Sundren's finest red wine and slurs drunkingly,

"Oh my! They must be talking about me! Me and my spirits have visited there recently." "They most certainly are talking about me!"

She looks around to see if anyone is listening to her. When she sees no one is paying attention to her she slams her goblet down on the table and stomps off in a fury.

Dryn keeps to Whurest in the days following the operations within Schild. Time willing, he steals away to her blustery walls, with hiis eyes trained on the skies, in hopes of experiencing these events for himself.
