  • Call to Arms: Mirakus Post

Throughout Mirakus Post, the following postings are stuck wherever there's room for the parchment. The validity of its claims are up for debate, but the postings are made nonetheless.

The days of Legion control are over.

Bandit hordes roam the valley, terrorizing all in their path.

The orcs are licking their wounds, waiting to pillage the lowlands once more.
The Legion sits in the sky, leaving us to deal with these troubles ourselves.
Learn to fight, or plan to die.

In these trying times, all people will need to either defend themselves or be swept away by the vicious tides.
Any persons willing to learn the arts of war are to report to The Drunken Dragon, right here in Mirakus Post, for demonstrations and training by the new Lord-Marshal of Mirakus Post, Xaayne Zek.

Don't live with fear; live with strength.

Xaayne Zek: The man with no name.

After several of the posters are torn down and replaced with Legion propoganda, even more go up, bearing slightly different messages.

Does the hawk protect the sheep?
Ask yourselves: Why does the Legion claim to protect you when one town lies ruled by Aurilites, another by Banites?
How does the Legion claim to protect you while they sit in isolation above?
Why does the Legion claim victory while our enemies swarm at all sides?
This is not a rebellion; this is not an uprising.
    This is life or death.
Learn to fight; Or learn to be ruled in silence.

Report to the Drunken Dragon for combat training, or prepare to see your lands, lives, and families swept away.
Xaayne Zek: The man with no name.

Archmagus Swift seeing one of these posts carefully removes it from the tree it was attached. Folding it neatly he strides off thinking, " these people need help, I am a Hand of Mundus, and by the gods I will do what I can before this escalates out of control."

Kristie looks over one of the posters on her way through the small town, and giggles like a schoolgirl at Xaayne's chosen heraldry
"Whats that axebrain up to this time? Not that jumping ten feet in the air and waving an axe about dosen't work. . . but I don't think it's for everyone."
The hin skips off to the Dragon to prod her companion for more details, large purple feather bouncing happily from her hat.

The barmaid of the Drunken Dragon, Patricia, is seen muttering as there are new and curious patrons entering the tavern to see what the signs are all about. The words, "raise" and "vacation" can be heard by the small halfling woman.

A simple envelope is left with the barmaid, addressed to Xaayne. Embellished on the envelope's flap is a well-detailed wax symbol of Thay.

              The contents are the following:

"To the proprietor of the Drunken Dragon, Xaayne Zek,

I have learned that you wish to obtain control over the area in which your inn rests, and I completely understand. I also understand your desire to do so is receiving hostile response from the Legionnaires.

I assure you that the Legionnaires have very little power in the valley, despite their claims. This is evident by how they have no control over Aquor, Sestra, or even Avanthyr; their own city in the sky suffers from crippling poverty and crime. However, they do have just enough force to prevent citizens from protecting themselves and claiming their land. They also pay adventurers to gather the resources and reap the benefits of the valley they do not pay protection to.

It is fortunate for you that I have access to all Thayan records, and it indicates that High Arcanist Demathos has long been in the making of golems for your purpose. To compensate you for your time and plight, I will personally oversee his project to both enhance the quality and quantity of the golems. This should assist you in maintaining the security of both your inn and the surrounding area.

Please feel free to write me back if you have further questions or wish to meet with me.

              Live with strength,
              Ramza Xantheus
              Master Transmuter of Thay"
Ramza Xantheus "...for a meager fee, of course."

              "
Heroes need the weak to feel important. I say, teach the weak the skills they need to live on their own, to protect themselves and break free of the chains of charity and victimization. The Triad needs people to protect. I need people to succeed." -Byrun von Hellstrom

Those who visit the Drunken Dragon would likely spot a large buildup of crossbows and halberds, various sized suits of chain, and Xaayne Zek eagerly training anyone who wishes in the process of loading and firing a heavy crossbow. He claims this is the first step.

*Angus Ironforge is seen nailing a bit of parchment to the front door of the Drunken Dragon*

                  To Xaayne Zek

Mirakus Post be defend'd by Exigo. It holds an Exigo strong hold and supports an Exigo mininig operation. It be for tis reasons we dismiss ye claim to be Lord Marshal of Mirakus Post.

Stick to ye Inn and manage it best ye can. Leave Mirakus Post to Exigo.

A rather green looking gnome is seen running about the post in an attempt to look like she's training, emulating the demonstrated crossbow technique to the best of her ability.

Xaayne looks over the parchment nailed to his door, then rips it down. Soon after, he hangs a postboard outside his establishment, and re-nails the Exigo complaint there with one minor alteration- thick black ink at the bottom reads:
Tell the men of Aquor about 'Exigo Defense'.

The Exigo and Blackwood staff, friends and family who now make up the vast majority of Mirakus's population tut and mutter amongst themselves, most having lost friends or relatives during the Black Hands rebellion. Blackwood soldiers in particular eye the change with scorn, their most recent losses during a massacre by Auril's SnowLeopards still fresh in their minds.

Business at the Drunken Dragon quickly dries up.
It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do a little - Do what you can.

Xaayne Zek, being a well-known and respected retired veteran of the Blackwood Company, posts yet another parchment around the Post.

                            To my Blackwood Brothers:
For too long has your organization tossed your lives away for mere coins.
The duty of a warrior is not to die for a noble's profit.
Why protect the weak, when you can strengthen them and fight shoulder to shoulder?
We can not allow another Aquor massacre.
Postions as militia trainers are available.

A hin in a purple dress and hat can be observed in the areas around Mirakus, finding farmers and otehr laymen and informing them about free crossbows and training at the Drunken Dragon. She highly emphasises the use against gnolls, orcs and bandits, and mentions nothing of the more political opponents Xaayne's posters contain.
