  • Murder in Sestra

Like a fire spreads the rumour, that another member of the Blackwell family has taken a part in the brutal murder in Sestra. The story says, that Darius Blackwell assassinated an unarmed man in an brutal and cold-blooded manner, with his own sword.

The only witness claims, that he and his witch servant were performing some kind of dark ritual in an occultist way and the word Bane could be mentioned. The scared young woman, who witnessed the terrible crime is now allegedly hiding in an unknown place to save her own life, so the clutches of the evil man can't reach at her.

OOC: I have to interject on this one, this rumor would not spread, as suggesting a Paladin of a protected Church like the Triumverate committed murder without hard evidence would be a severe Blasphemy in Sundren. In violation of several of the Sundren Valley laws.

      OOC: Ciao. Just few questions.

      1. were you present in the place, when the incident happened?
      2. if ordinary commoners spread the story, does every single one oh them know, who Darius Blackwell is? Who does he actually represent? That he's a paladin?

I bet, that if some peasant would be passing the scene, he would see a woman chanting some odd verses over the grave, man calmly staying in the head of the grave and another man unsheathing it's sword and after a while of the chanting striking the calm, defenceless, not talking man's belly with it/head/chest - thus killing him. Plus a witness Sile, quickly leaving the scene who - IC'ly thought, that Darius and the chanting woman (witch) made some dark sacrifice in the place of death - she quickly left the scene - and shared her knowledge (Sile doesn't have a clue about Darius being a paladin), OOC'ly as well. Word Bane was added by Sile to make the story more interesting and also to defame the name Blackwell, just for her own joy.

OOC: That is for the DM's to decide on, and for such things I would cordially ask that you differ to them before posting rumors of murder accusation or other law breaking of other players as public rumors. We as players do not have the right to assume the actions or reactions of npc's.

        Thanks

Last words - this topic is described as Rumour and the definition of the word itself is clear to me. If I can not assume the actions/the mechanism how the rumour/gossip spreads among the people, then this topic makes no sense.

You're hiding behind NPC's to keep your PC safe, if you'd like to have your PC personally spread this rumor, you're welcome to take such an action yourself. You do not assume how NPC's react, that's the purpose of DM's, as I did in your other thread.

You are free to spread the rumor to players in game, and tell "commoners" through the board, but whether or not the commoners continue to repeat it would be a DM call, not the posting player. You are free to say that Sile is seen to be spreading the rumors, though. Be aware, with her recent public discharge and lashings however, that she's going to be considered an disreputable and very recognizable source.

Beat to it by Kasso, thanks for the DM clarification.

Okay, not my last words. Check my original topic, where did I put any words/reactions in NPC's mouths? Should I not use the word "fire" in the sentence? And just "Rumour spreads .." instead of "Like a fire spreads the rumour..." ? That I understand. And trust me, Sile most definitely shared her experience with others in the inns etc., especially when Blackwell is involved.

I suppose people of Sundren do not have television or net, so they talk much. Some accept the story, some not, some improve it and spread it in their own way. Can't I assume that?

No, you really can't just assume that, that's the whole point of the objections here, it's against the god-modding rules in place on this forum and in several other sources, including the rules on our wiki. This is why if you look, a great many rumor threads are started by DM's and then players will post reactions to them of their own characters.

Like a fire spreads the rumour.
                          Pretty much this.

Your wording assumes, it's not an action but rather a direct statement of how something happens. You're assuming that the rumor would spread and not just stop at the first NPC who hears it, or heck that your PC would attempt to do it and not just be arrested/hung (Not saying they would).

This is a game about actions, and consequence. A purpose of the DM staff is to mitigate the actions of players and provide feasible consequence to their actions. You want to spread a rumor, you approach a DM with a private message and say something to the tune of "I want to spread X rumor". You explain how you intend to do this and through what networks and resources. The DM then decides how far your rumor goes and gives you a report on what to post, or does it themselves. Reward Gold/EXP/Rep, next event.

There's no gain in just coming onto the forum and posting "This happens and it defames this character." Players aren't dumb, they'll look that it was written by a player with no credibility backing it and immediately disregard it as nonsense. Moreso if it's like this one where a DM needs to come in and actually tell you "No, you need to act this play out, not just cash in on the benefits." If you want to start a smear campaign, do so... But do so fairly, through the proper channels, you'll get better results, more rewards and a more satisfactory feeling overall.

I appreciate the effort on your guys part to jump in and help, but I can handle this, Tamha, Aniril, I can take spray of hateraid, don't need you stepping into the hose.

Edit; Thread Re-opened, I'm far from done if more needs to be explained.
