  • Friday Night Fights at Jimmy's Dice Den!

Across the civilized areas of Sundren a crimson colored poster goes up on billboards and sign posts:

COME ONE AND ALL! CAGE FIGHTS AT JIMMY'S EVERY TENTHDAY!

"Good evening, my friends. Jimmy's Dice Den is proud to present to you completely legal and authentic Cage Fighting Matches! Every tenthday (Friday evening PST) we will host an exciting selection of Cage matches. Contestants can sign up with Jimmy at the front counter. Spectators and contestants all welcome!

My friends, in these dark times what better way to take your mind from vampires and ne'er-do-wells than an exciting bloodsport? What better place for you to fight your friends and your bitter rivals? Fight for the honor and respect of your peers! Fight for the glory of the crowd! And, of course, the satisfaction of kicking the tail of your foes!

The rules are simple: No magic. This is to be a contest of strength and skill, not magic and manipulations. No magical artifacts of any kind will be allowed, including magical arms, armor, shields, cloaks, boots, jewelry, potions, or any other enchanted accessory. Mages and priests may not attend unless they plan to make no use of magic whatsoever.

All contestants may only bring the following:
One suit of mundane non-magical armor.
    One mundane non-magical shield.
    and Three mundane non-magical weapons.

All skills, abilities, and maneuvers are acceptable, so long as they non-magical in nature. This includes tripping, disarming, punching, kicking, wrestling, hair-pulling, spitting in the eyes, or any other vicious but effective fighting style.

The cage match does not condone duels to the death, unless specific exception is made by the proper authorities. We will not play host to your blood feuds.

Spectator price of admission is ten staggs. Contestants get in for free so long as they fight that night, and earn free drinks for winning as well as other possible prizes, including coin and rare one-of-a-kind equipment!

For the first night, matches will be drawn as evenly as possible on the spot, with matches being placed in tiers and schedules in following tendays. Prospective contestants are expected to sign up with Jimmy on a separate posting at the Dice Den. The sooner the better!

I hope to see you all there, rooting for your favor contestants and cheering them on to victory.

Your friend in the finest Sundren entertainment, Devante White."

    The Rules of Engagement

The following are the rules of engagement for the Cage Fights:

    No magical spells or powers.
This includes all magic from arcane or divine sources. No spells of any kind. No abilities that are magical in origin, such as innate magical powers. No bardic music. No smiting. No cleric domain powers. No warlock blasts or invocations. No Monk supernatural powers such as Empty Body or Abundant Step. Nothing obviously supernatural. Powers that are not so obvious may get you disqualified if they are not properly hidden in a realistic fashion.

    Physical abilities only.
This includes: knockdown, disarm, feint, grapple, fighting defensively, dirty fighting, combat expertise, power attack, stunning fist, hide in plain sight, rage, second wind, frenzy, or any other conceivable non-magical non-supernatural combat form or ability.

Special note about Disarm: Contestants may disarm freely, but may not pick up their opponents weapons.

Special note about Hide In Plain Sight: Contestants may utilize this ability freely, but only so long as it helps them continue to fight. Those who use this ability to hide or get away from the fight are considered to have lost the match. A contestant with Hide In Plain Sight may only use it to stay hidden for a round or two. Any longer and the contestant is considered to be fleeing or stalling and is disqualified.

    Mundane non-magical equipment only.
Contestants may not make use of any magical equipment or magical expendable items of any kind before or during their match. Contestants will be screened for magical objects or spells prior to the match.

Contestants are only allowed to bring the following items into the Cage:

One suit of mundane non-magical armor.
    One mundane non-magical shield.
    Three mundane non-magical weapons.

Items made of a special material (silver, cold iron, adamantine, darksteel, etc.) are allowed.

    No buffing.
Contestants may not be buffed or otherwise magically prepared in any way before a match.

Exception: a contestant may take drugs before a match, but is subject to the authorities if he is caught doing so, as the law requires.

    Subdual mode only.
These are not death matches. Contestants begin the fight at the call of the ringer, and continue until one or the other is unconscious. The winner is the last to fall (in the case multiple opponent matches, or rage/frenzy collapses). A barbarian who collapses after winning is still the victor, so don't hold back! A priest will be on stand-by to heal the contestants after every match. Volunteer healers will also be appreciated on a case by case basis only.

    Admission.
All non-contestants who wish to enter, or who are already present must pay the ten stagg fee, even if they were already present at Jimmy's before the matches are started. Registered contestants do not have to pay.

    Losing.
Losers are expected to lose graciously..... while in the Dice Den. No revenge or fighting of any kind is allowed on the premises except in the Cage. Jimmy will not tolerate fighting outside his establishment either. Those who wish to continue grudges must do so outside city limits, as the law requires.

    Winning.
Winners receive the satisfaction of winning, as well as free drinks for the rest of the night, even if they fight again that night and lose. Winners receive coin for a win, based on the level and strength of the opponent they faced. Winners also receive more coin for making matches more exciting or interesting in any way (such as fighting with one-hand tied behind their back, or while blinded with a blindfold). Some winners may be gifted with special prizes. These prizes are determined by the whim of the establishment and are a privilege, not a right. Not everyone will receive prizes. Do not complain if you don't get a prize, or you may forfeit your coinage as well.

    Cheating.
There is no cheating in the Cage.... that is obvious. Characters that can conceivably get away with some manner of cheating are welcome to try, and are free of recompense if they get away with it and are discovered later (though they may suffer a hit to their reputation in and out of the cage). Those caught cheating before or amidst the match are disqualified immediately and cast out of the Dice Den for the rest of the evening.

    Tiers and Scheduling.
Every attempt will be made to try and match contestants against each other as evenly and as balanced as possible. Contestants will be rated by a Tier system that corresponds to their base attack bonus (representing their fighting prowess) and their combat forms and options. This list is tentative, not definitive.

    Tier One
    BAB 1-5

    Tier Two
BAB 6-10, rarely BAB 1-5 with many or particularly effective combat options.

    Tier Three

BAB 11-15, sometimes BAB 6-10 with many or particularly effective combat options.

    Tier Four
BAB 16-20, often BAB 11-15 with many or particularly effective combat options.

    Tier Five
BAB 21+, or BAB 16-20 with many or particularly effective combat options.

Every attempt will be made to match contestants of the same Tier in Cage Matches. This is done for fairness, as well as to preserve excitement in evenly matched combats. No one wants to see a match that lasts three seconds.

Some matches may be scheduled in advance, especially for particularly popular contestants. Failure to show for these scheduled appearances can cause a hit to one's reputation in and out of the Cage.

    Special Matches.

Special matches can and will be made on occasion that alter the standard rules of engagement. This might include team matches, multiple opponents versus one, monster fighting, no weapons or armor, allowed magical arms and armor, allowed potions, or other possible special rules that might make the fights more entertaining and interesting to watch.

    Number of Bouts.
Contestants are not expected, nor encouraged to fight repeatedly, match after match. No one wants to watch a contestant fight over and over, even if they are winning. Special exceptions might be made if the contestant can somehow keep such a thing interesting, but do not expect it. Most contestants will be limited to a certain number of pre-scheduled matches and no more, except on a case by case basis.

    Anonymity.
Contestants may come in costume and hide their identities for the duration of the event, and are, in fact, encouraged to do so as it can make things more exciting. They must still register publicly, and any known criminals will be pursued by the Legion as the law requires. However, on the night of the fights, any contestant is valid to fight, so long as they are not discovered to be a known criminal, regardless of alignment, creed, or organization.

    No vampires.
If a contestant is discovered to be a vampire, they will be immediately (but respectfully) disqualified.

      Registration

Jimmy the half-orc stands behind his counter at the Dice Den. Behind him, a large elaborate poster is prominently displayed, and he is now taking submissions for contestants, who are free to post their admission below.

/// This thread is for IC character postings of becoming a contestant. Please note that only a single player's character may participate in any single event. You may not fight one match, then switch characters to fight in another. You may, however, have one character fight in one event one week, and another character fight in the next week.

This thread is not for general responses to the Cage Match. A separate thread will be made for general non-contestant RP postings (here:http://www.sundren.org/forum/showthr...967#post106967). Please reserve this thread for signing up ONLY. RP posts that are not about signing up to be a contestant here will be deleted to keep the thread on topic.

      The thread is now open.

A particularly vicious-looking halfling reportedly wandered into Jimmy's Dice Den, yelled "I's Xaayne Zek, bes' choppa' 'roun', now lem'me figh' ev'ry'un!", threw a dead chicken across the room, carved an X followed by a crude axe into a table, and then wandered off with the dead chicken slung over his shoulder.

Benedict, a silver haired young monk walks cautiously into Jimmy's Dice Den and approaches the bar. *Clearing his throat to get Jimmy's attention* Yes... I would like to sign up for your tenth day cage fights. *Jimmy, smirking, slides him the roster. Benedict signs and departs quietly*

Kili looks at Jimmy with open spite, "Good day, orc ..", says in an unfriendly tone, ".. I am Kili, the merecenary of the Blackwood Company and ..", she waits for a second or two dramatically, ".. the best dwarven warrior you have ever seen.", adds very proudly. "Sign me in, orc ..", says with disgust, ".. and watch my victory!", Kili bangs the bar with terrible power.

"Have a nice day, orc.", says she haughtily while leaving the lair of debauchery and depravity .
Kili - mercenary of the Blackwood Company
Sile - impoverished free merchant, looking for her own happiness
Lindi - wandering bard and actress

Lester walks up next to Constantine rubbing his sore head before dumping the pieces he intends to fight with on the counter: two steel daggers and a shiv.

"Just those, no armour, See you later Jimmy!" He smirks and wanders into the back rooms.

"This should be good," Lysandra says as she writes two names down on the sign up sheet.

                    Lysandra Blackwell versus Cillian Grant

Lysandra Blackwell: Above and a little to the left of the law.
Maristela Rai'quen: Sugar and spice and everything vice.

A missive reaches Jimmy, penned in a small, meticulous hand.

                      "I wish to participate.

                      -Lilene"

((Tier 4, most likely, based on the rankings.))

A tall, handsome elven male with glowing silver eyes walks into the den, well aware of the rather pensive glances from some of the shadier patrons, many of whom are well aware of who this particular elf is. "No magic fights aren't really my thing, but to tell the truth, that should just make things more interesting. Sign me up, Jimmy."

Jimmy, not particularly happy to ever have this particular elf inside his pub, pauses for only a moment before writing down the name of the new contestant as the elf makes his way out of his establishment without another word. "Tigen Amastacia wants to fight here? Well, thought I had seen it all, never thought someone like him would be into the blood sport. Frilly elven pansy."

The elf hums a small tune to himself, amused at the comment Jimmy had made, thinking the elf long out of earshot. Maybe this is the chance I needed. I'll use this place as a way to find the one I'm looking for, the one who can wield it. Continuing his tune as he thinks this to himself, he heads off back to his own room outside city limits, to ready himself for the coming week.
Tigen Amastacia: Died in events so you didn't have to.

Quintin Ulsteris: Nice-guy Legion engineer, deceased son of House Ulsteris.

Clandriel Cain: AKA "Fire-eyes" AKA "Demon hunter" AKA "OH MY GOD, WHY IS HE STILL STABBING ME!!??"

Caedus stumbles his way into the bar, making his way up to Jimmy.

"Ale don't disqualify me right? Sign me up.." He immediately orders a drink and mixes the contents with the booze already in his flask.
