Well that is real work. If it is not a suspected thief that they can beat near to death, and then force at sword point to strip naked in front of the entire war camp the legion is unmotivated. In fact I would not be surprised if that incident was not the motivation for the desertion and defection to the Veritas of the catapult gunner the next day. I am kind of glad we did not find him. There is another point... WE did not find him, I did not see a single legionnaire, searching, they hired a band of adventures to search for this man and assail the Veritas position while they stayed behind their wall.
