  • The Unwriting of the Overgod

After the overgod proclaimed his existence at end of the Time of Troubles at Waterdeep, a cult of followers was formed with the center of their worship being this newly discovered deity. Though there is no record of any member receiving any divine blessing or spell, its membership steadily grew and became compromised of individuals from many walks of life. Something about the existence of a god that ruled over all other gods drew people to this new faith.

However, something very strange has happened recently. Almost all written records of this new deity have begun to be erased from existence. Entire tomes filled with the ponderings of the nature of this deity were opened to be found blank, engravings are being erased from statues, and even the very name of the overgod is said to vanish from parchment as soon as it is written. Indeed, dear reader, that is why you won't find his name in this book.

Among scholars, wizards, and the remaining faithful in the cult, this has come to be known as the "Unwriting." This strange event has lead many to believe it is a divine act of the overgod himself. It is his way of erasing the memory of his existence from all of Toril. The consequences of this have been severe for the once growing cult. Many of its members have lost faith and turned back to the worship of the other gods. In fact, many now consider the worship of the overgod to be taboo and perhaps forbidden by the divine. The persecution of those clinging to faith in the overgod is not unheard of.

As things stand now, it won't be long until the overgod and his short lived cult are naught more than a forgotten memory.
It is better to try and fail than to never try at all. Those who never try are cursed to wonder what might have been.
