Arren sat in the shadow of a great poplar tree, watching the small brook tumble past him through half-closed eyes. The forests of these new lands amazed him, deeper and more wild than any he had walked in his native Icewind Dale. He had passed but a few short days walking among the trees, but already they called to them and he felt a growing desire to see this emerald treasure protected.
Closing his eyes, he placed his hands against the smooth bark and sent a quiet call out into the forest. Before long, a trio of squirrels popped their inquisitive heads around the great trunk. Taking the largest into his hands, he stroked the animals sleek fur and whispered in his ear.
Find the other servants of Nature, little brother, find them and ask where they be, and what they do to safeguard this place and preserve the balance. I would join with them if they are willing. Run swiftly!
