  • To Esmee Vindale of the town of Navil

*a light series of chirps and sqwaks escape the black raven as it hops down from a small stack of books, making its way toward the bard. Osclow smiles after a small look of surprise. How did Heska know he was just about finished? Mayhaps it was because he was close to the end of the limited space the small paper provided. Perhaps it was because Heska had done this a hundred times before, or maybe it her nature as a familiar that gave her intelligence above the typical garden-variety raven. Whatever the case, the black feathered beauty has earned herself a small bit of mealworm in the bard's eyes and she was more than happy to gobble it down, remaining still as Osclow fastened the small note to her right leg. "Another trip over the mountains my fine-feathered friend." the bard spoke before extending his forearm to serve as a temporary perch en route to the open window. There was no joy in his voice for this particular delivery The raven's black eyes reflected the dour look upon bruised features. Though this was not her mistress, the familar seemed somewhat aware of the bard's sadness, looking and sounding almost concerned with an occasional low croon. "Do not fret over me. You have more important matters to tend to." The bard sounded insistant and cast out his arm to send the raven into the winds*

    Dear Esmee,

Words cannot describe the level of sorrow I possess in writing these words and asking for this request. Never will I ever be able to apologize enough. I have managed to gain the ire of foes that may utilize force of arms or tactics far more devious to get to me. While the safety of you and Tia are perhaps not in question, this is not something I am willing to risk. I would like for you to take my little girl to see her uncle Josef in Neverwinter and with him I would like for the two of you to stay until further notice. Please give this letter to him, and with it my deepest apologies. Let him know that I will do whatever it takes to pay him back for keeping you two safe.

Through Heska, I shall continue to communicate with you. However, do not show this letter to my little Tia. In her eyes, make her believe this is nothing more than an extended visit to her uncle. Tell my parents, Weis, and Professor Teion the truth, but no one else. I will not have those I care about put at risk, but neither shall I have them living in a state of panic. Rest assured that I am fine for the time being and have the utmost intention to stay that way. If Heska returns to you empty-handed, then you will know that something has happened to me. In the event that such a thing occurs, then trust only the words of Annie or Fenton.

Another thing. It is unlikely you will ever see her face again. However, let as many people in the town know that Lauan cannot be trusted if she ever sets foot in Navil again. You no longer need to keep her thayan background secret. Even when it is safe to return to Navil, keep this in mind.

As for the wedding, it is postponed until further notice. However, Annie sends her love. She looks forward to seeing you two again.

I am sorry to put you through this.
I am sorry that you may be potentially be involved in matters you should never be.
And if I am being paranoid, I am sorry for making you stay with Josef unnecessarily. Tell him to keep his hands off of you or he will have to answer to me.

    Love,
    Osclow
