  • A letter to Kathryn Blake

    Dear Kathryn,

How have you been? I know it has been a while since my last letter, certainly longer than I said it would be. I do hope you will forgive me. I have had my head in many matters as of late. Sometimes, I think I get involved far more deeply than one who walks the path I have should.
I imagine you have been keeping rather busy in Candlekeep. With so many books present, I cannot imagine a single day going by without something wonderous to study or do. I have been thinking about planning a trip there for a little while, and perhaps bring Annie, Fenton, and Tia along. However, as entertained as my daughter and I would be, I cannot help but think that Annie and Fenton would be bored to tears. Speaking of Annie, you may find this quite surprising, but she and I wound up together. In fact, after a semi-violet matter with her mother and a crossbow aimed at my spine, she and I become betrothed. With Annie, I feel I have finally found the piece of myself I have been missing and I am hoping to propose to her in a more 'classic' manner once things have settled down here in Sundren.
Which brings us to the unfortunate talk of business and the reason I had this letter sealed by our own personal little lock spell. You have probably realized by now that damn necromancer witch's book is gone and truth be told, I do not know where to. Samantha is still held in custody though and is likely only still alive to be pumped for information. From what I have heard her knowledged of necromancy rivaled, perhaps even surpassed, that of the Hands themselves, so they may take a more personal interest in her. As to your reason for departing, I have kept your secret. As you suspected, many eyes have turned away, yet friends still speak of you when recalling days gone by.
I miss you terribly. I must confess without you I often feel lost as to what steps to take for this land's benefit and what I can do to truly help the people and those I care about. I am not the leader you are, nor can I respect any other as a leader as I did you. However, what has transpired had to be done. I understand that. Hopefully the day will return when you can return to Sundren. Until that time comes, never forget that you are always welcome in Navil. I believe Tia and Esmee miss you almost as much as I do.

Your loyal friend and ally to the end,
    Osclow.

((In memory of Gab. I miss you, and I know I am not the only one. And no people, she's not dead, she just left some time ago.))
