  • A letter to Kira Fortuna

    Dear priestess Fortuna,

Forgive me for my absence of late, but I have been pursuing various business propositions and working the will of Waukeen as I understand it and practice it. I have recently returned again, to this "rustic" backwater land, and I am appalled to see these notices the Exigo has posted. If you have not seen them, then you must as soon as you can.

These people, these followers of foreign gods, are continuing to trade in a manner in which I believe Waukeen would find reprehensible. Their foreign gods must be all that protects their wealth as Waukeen would surely bankrupt them for their business practices.

I have spoken to you before about this, but I hope you see my position clearly now. They are intent on trying to weed out all competition. These no competition clauses and "permits" are against everything Waukeen teaches us about raising no barriers to trade! Their foreign gods are trying to take advantage of Waukeen's long absence. We must stop them lest the people in Sundren reject Waukeen and our many other gods for these Mullhorandi false gods!

I highly suggest a public boycott and denoucement of the Exigo merchantile practices. We should also reach out to the "alternative" merchants and work out new ways to move goods in and out of Sundren for those who honor the true Goddess of Wealth, Waukeen. And of course, we will profit from it, while the Exigo withers and becomes penniless for their sins and adherence to the teachings of false gods.

We should likely discuss this further in person.

    Sincerely,
Catalina de la Cruz, servant of Waukeen.

The Priestess scrawls a note on a piece of parchment.

    Catalina,

While the Exigo's policy of trade is not as open as ours, there must be an understanding that the Exigo is a powerful and influential force here in Sundren and has many ties with the Thayans, and even the Sundarian government. Announcing a public boycott is far overstepping our morals, and furthermore would only serve to do what you seek to do with the Exigo -- destroy our reputation.

Rather instead we should reinforce the positives of Waukeen's dogma and not even make mention of the Exigo. The people will see the respect in our trade instead of us diminishing ourselves by starting a war of propoganda that will benefit no one.

The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.
