*Elric pulls out a sheet of expensive Vellum chased in gold and begins to write*

    Cadmus,

I am writing this missive in an attempt at reconciliation. I see the evil deeds that are perpetrated on a daily basis in Sundren and the surrounding lands and find that I cannot sit idly by any longer.

But first, let me explain my reasons for defending Kemnebi:

    1. I believe everyone deserves a defense. Without checks and balances, justice becomes a hollow concept and becomes a tool of the wicked and unjust.

    2. You may already have figured this out, but I do at times rebel against authority, it is in my nature. Long ago I was a young minstrel full of optimism and a wonderlust that would have taken me to the worlds edge. However, dark events in Neverwinter crushed my hopes and dreams for many a year. I was forcefully recruited into the Neverwinter militia and served two bloody years in internecine wars that accomplished little. Finally, after one long and arduous battle, I was critically wounded and many thought I would die that day.

I did not die, but my recovery took almost an entire year and after that, I was seen as unfit for battle duty. I was merely cast aside by the very government who had wreaked their destruction on me years ago by my induction into the militia. To say I hated Neverwinter, it's petty nobles and the government itself would be an understatement!

Once I could walk again, I decided to take up my first passion, which was music and my second, magic. I joined a traveling troupe of entertainers and spent many magical years with them, finally emerging on the scene in Sundren.

I still bear Neverwinter's scars and it makes me do foolish things at times, especially when I believe I can tweak the nose of officials.

You may not care about this letter, my past, or my attempts at reconciliation, but I thought it was important to let you know that I still harbor friendship for you and wish to help you in any way I can. The evil that is spreading is much more pervasive than I originally thought and my contacts deliver information to me daily on how far it is spreading.

Now to the point of this missive. I pledge my support to you and the authorities. We must root out this evil and stop it before is spreads throughout the entire land. I would like to meet with you to discuss my support. Please bring a Paladin of Helm if you deem it necessary for him to search my heart and detect any evil that people may claim envolopes me.

    I await your response.

    Sincerely,

    Elric Gallow

*Elric folds the vellum, places it in an envelope, then seals the envolope with wax. He then hands it to a courier.*

The sudden knock on the door roused Cadmus from his meditation. He spent the majority of the last several days in such a state, attempting to release his anger and find a semblance of peace through commune with his deity.

The recent trials he had endured had taken a heavy toll on the usually cordial dwarven Priest. His daily meditations worked to focus his resolve and center his purpose, something that would be surely needed in the coming months.

Rising, he turns his attention to the door and the matter at hand.

    "Please enter brother."

The young human boy dressed in finely detailed robes embroirdered with the symbol of Helm respectfully opened the door.

"I have brought a missive brother Cadmus."
"The courier said it was penned by Elric Gallows and should be delivered to you with utmost haste."

Cadmus nods slowly, surprised to receive a letter from Elric. The last time they had spoken had been strained, both men unleashing harsh criticism and hasty words.

    "Thank you lad."
    "May Helm shield your path."

The temple courier bowed and stepped out of the room as Cadmus settled himself at his desk to read the letter.

    Finishing he writes his reply.

    Elric,

Thank you for your kind words old friend. I know that perhaps we do not see eye to eye about many issues, but in this time of impending darkness we should put aside our differences and work together for the common good of all Sundrenians.

I have heard that you had relinquished your position of leadership among the Arcanus Liberus? I would ask that you reconsider such a decision. In these dark times men are capeable of being swayed if they have nothing to bind them together.
The Arcanus could become a source of such stability provided they have the proper leadership in place to guide them.

The trial took a great toll upon me. I blamed myself for Kemnebi's actions, but I see now that I was simply used to fascilitate his dark purpose. I have sought absolution for my involvement in the events that led to Tifton's death, and in time perhaps I shall forgive myself, but for now I must put those thoughts behind me and focus upon the present.

I would welcome your aid Elric, and any other forces that you can marshal under our banner. The time for war fast approaches.

I fear many shall fall in our fight to free the lands. Our road to victory shall be long and bloody, but in war... is there any other recourse?

    Sincerely,

    Cadmus Runesmith

Cadmus seals the letter and stamps it with a wax seal emblazoned with the symbol of Helm, handing it to the courier to return to Elric.
