To the most knowledgeable Ulraunt, Keeper of the tomes of the fine exalted institution that is Candlekeep, centre of all learning that is Arcane and magical in nature.
Greetings. Firstly allow myself the pleasure of introducing myself. Humble Peppington Merriffefferlis. Humble not being part of my name but referring to my demeanour (hopefully). Not that I can?t rouse myself where the time calls for it, but that is a digression which I hope you will forgive (being but a poor humble student of the Arcane I can but afford one sheet of parchment on which this is written so excuse any mistakes or digressions such as this).
Holding such high and important office, (referring to yourself here, not I, I am humble), you will probably not remember our first (and only) encounter which took place at (fine exalted institution that is) Candlekeep (centre of all learning that is Arcane and magical in nature). I can only apologise once again for the actions of my cat Chester, I now believe that he had eaten too much cheese that day and was feeling rather off. I assure you that he feels most dreadful about the whole event; hopefully the few coins I could spare went some way to contributing to any repairs that had to be undertaken. Naturally Chester now has a daily cheese ration that is not to be exceeded (although he has rather gone off cheese since that event).
Now, if it pleases you, onto the purpose of this correspondence. As I mentioned during our brief encounter in your hallowed halls, it is my most heartfelt wish that I join the fine ranks of your scholars and help aid the furtherment of Arcane knowledge and understanding. I now feel that I am in a position to provide valuable aid in this endeavour and request entry to your innermost private sanctum (by this I of course refer to Candlekeep and become a scholar of that fine institution). Not only have I studied hard to reach this position but have also invested in a new hat which would really complement this elevated position (hence only one sheet of parchment as noted above).
I await you reply eagerly. As does Chester.
