  • A question to Sundren law concerning Drow blooded.

    To the esteemed Sundren courts,

I am unsure of the finer points of Sundren law concerning those with partial Drow blood. I understand Full drow are to be killed at sight, but what of those with partial drow blood?

I ask because this has come up and caused three deaths so far. I wish to see no more un needed blood shed so wish to be claryfied on this point.

When will the bloodshed end? Cannot some of those who hail from the underdark fall a long stones throw from their vicious kin?

While there are many who mean us harm, i have met in my travels a small number of Drow who have been banished from their own kin and seek refuge amongst us so called "Surface Dwellers". Is there not a chance that some may be forgiven for the crimes of their ancestors and rise above the hate purely on their skin?

I fear if we contine this solemn path we will end no better than the drow theselves.

A lanky, pointy nosed elf with slicked-back hair the color of spun gold and intense eyes sneers, mocking the sympathy of any who would shed a tear for a Drow.

"Oh, yes. Let's welcome them to the surface with open arms, so they can easier drive the dagger into our exposed ribs. Though, they'd likely wait a hundred years for an elf to turn their back before unloading a hand-crossbow bolt to the back. You obviously have no concept of the depravity of the Dhaerow. A dhaerow has no concept of friendship, or honor, or dignity, or of compassion. They have been crushed out of their brutal society, and replaced by calculating evil, seething in a mortal shell. To get what they want, a dhaerow would think nothing of befriending, pretending, abusing, using, and discarding any and all in their path to achieve even the most minute of their desires."

And people wonder why we 'Deep Gnomes' are usually keeping to ourselves in the underdark...distrustful of anyone not of our blood at first.
(Yet very kind to our own, and extremely against the typical under-dark thinking of 'revenge' against the surfacers or some silly non-sense like that.)

          OOC:
This is one of the problems with players playing sub-races or other species generally known for being the 'antogonists' in stories. If they'd have made more monster character ECL's, I wonder what affect that would have on the game. (And this is an option in PnP)

I think the overall mistake with D&D3.5 has been that in thier quest for more 'player options' (ie: trying to make 'goog' drow'), they forgot to change the whole mythos. Now someone can play a Frost Giant with a heart of Gold, but generally might get the shite beat out of them by high level 'non-ECL' races, just for being a giant.

From what I've ben reading from the Saga Edition Star Wars rulebook (one of the pre-cursers to 4th edition), allignments are gone. It's simply your actions and choice of prestige classes later that determines if you're going down a dark path or not. That alone is a good start. No more: Oh everyone of that species/race is either some level of defined good, evil, or in-between.

Unfortunetly we're still in a game with 3.5 rules. So I really don't know how to defend a player's choice currently for playing Tieflings, Drow, Duergar, and after the expansion, half-drow (which might be able to get away with it)
All I can do is blame the gneral FR mythos of 'this race is bad and everyone knows it' mentality. That stems back from the orignal D&D when all you had were a few races, and a few classes, and everything else was the 'bad guy' for your adventuring party.

Some would say that creatures such as Kobolds were "Ruthless, Evil and Dementing", but have there not been several of their kind that have intergrated into our society, even helped us better the way of life for all?

I am not saying that many of the Drow do not seek our fall, only that there are nearly always a number of people within any society with the capacity to see the error of their ways. Should the villigars perish for the crimes of their leaders? Should man and woman burn at the stake just because of the sins their like coloured make, even though these before you may plead mercy and wish you no harm?

The distrust is natural, it is normal, but Cruelty should not be met with Untargeted and inconsiderate Bloodlust. Revenge is the white hot beast that will consume untill there is nothing left to consume. Let us ponder truly which path we should take lest we become no better than a Devil.
