Josie collected the necessary forms, keeping her rangy, freckled face impassive as she did so. The administrative officer in front of her proceeded to launch into his spiel, giving detailed instructions on how the forms were to be filled out and delivered. The forms were self explanatory, really, there was no need for instruction... but Josie understood. That little speech was probably the only bit of normalcy that officer had in this time, this place; and he clung to it with ferocity because it was the only way to keep from losing himself to the chaos that swirled just outside, on the other side of the Castrum doors.
They were all doing it, those who survived. They clung to the minutiae of their lives because the only other option was to be swallowed whole by the enormity of the death and destruction that surrounded them. That minutiae, Josie mused as she moved to a desk to begin the arduous task of filling out official transfer request forms, was what would save them. It was the little steps that grew into bigger steps, and would see the city repaired. "At least", she thought to herself, "We have a city to repair. Guess that's worth holding on to." That seemed to bolster her as she bent to the task, unaware of just how close they'd all come to the alternative.
Eventually the official transfer packet was complete. She stuffed it in the provided envelope, along with personal letters of request to both commanding officers, then handed it over to the administrative officer with a crisp salute.
Enclosed in the packet:
(Official transfer of duty request form, filled in triplicate- one copy to be placed in her permanent file, and two to go to each commanding officer)
(A letter of personal request addressed to Dame Ardith Kellridge)
(A letter of personal request addressed to Centurio Rhimus Ravain)

To Dame Ardith Kellridge,
As you can see from the enclosed form, I wish to request an official transfer of duties. This decision is based entirely upon my desire to return to the city, in light of recent events. In these times, I believe Sundren needs her sons and daughters now more than ever... and truly, I just want the opportunity to help and protect my home. I hope that you will consider my request in the spirit it was given. It has been an honor to serve under you, and with the Tenth.
Vae Victus,
Sesquiplicarius Josie Tam

To Centurio Rhimus Ravain,
(the next line is nearly a dark grey smudge where many attempts have been put down, then erased out. The paper has become so thin that it's nearly transparent. Writing begins the following line down)
I am placing an official request for a transfer of duties back to the city. The proper forms are enclosed. You, more than any officer I have served under, know my history and know how important our home of Sundren is to me. While I know that I started off a bit rough around the edges, and this gave you a lot of concern, I am hoping that my subsequent record will speak for itself, and put any fears you may have to rest. I have no ulterior motive, Sir. I simply wish to return to my home, the place we have taken oaths to protect, to offer my service. Sundren's need is great. Even if the assignment is temporary, I beg you to consider my request.
