  • Hammerer's Call

The following letter is twice penned by Dryn. Each neatly written upon the finest hide, rolled, held fast by twin bands of dwarven steel bearing the great sigil of Whurest.

Both bound for Citadel Adbar in the Silver Marches, one he sends by Eastbound caravan, from the Gate of the Sundrener, and the other by sea, from Port Avanthyr.

Hail, Rorann Stonehammer, High Old One and Honored Leader of Moradin's Hammerers.

Vast distance and many perils separate our halls and it will only be by Vergadain's blessings that this missive makes its way to you and is of curiosity enough to be opened, for I know not if I, and even my hold, are counted as strangers to you.

I am Dryn Stonewhisperer, Thane of Whurest and Stonelord watching over a region of The Spine known as The Cold Climb, North of the valley Sundren, upon The Spine’s Western-most tip. It is on behalf of Whurest, Bristlebeard's Hollow, the holdfast of my kin, that I write to you.

Whurest was carved from the igneous stone of the The Spine by children of Mithril Hall at the command of now Thane Bruenor Battlehammer and under the leadership of our honored Thane Eriak Bristlebeard and four others: Fali Stonetoe, Urias and Dalgal Deepforge, and Ovgan Chiselchin, some seventy years ago. Over the course of next forty-four years: our hold was constructed, Eriak and his Company aided in the defeat of Haerinvureem, and our numbers swelled to near two-hundred kinfolk. It was then, after Mithril Hall's reclamation and Eriak's return to his hollow, the ruins of Runedarrhyn were discovered nearby. The prospect of dwarven steps once again echoing in those forgotten halls lit a flame in Eriak, as I suspect it would for us all.

Three more years of focused effort to reclaim one of Delzoun's forgotten treasures followed, however, in the fall of 1369, duergar erupted from the yet unclaimed depths led by illithid now known to us as Xalliordell. Their assault was quick, brutal. Moradin's children were caught off balance and overwhelmed, forced to abandon Runedarrhyn after many of our brothers and sisters were killed or taken prisoner.

Were it that this was the extent of the Xalliordell’s transgressions against Whurest, this letter would have never of been written. We would simply continue in this long standoff as we have for the last decade. For we, as Citadel Adbar, are no strangers to war. No, esteemed cousin, the Xalliordell filth have taken for themselves a grave trespass against Moradin, All-Father, Himself. With blades of hardened iron they cut into the skulls of those they capture. By enslaved labor the very bodies of our brothers and sisters have become bent and twisted. Our lost now shuffle mindlessly. Prisoners in life. The will of their eternal souls replaced by that of the descended alhoon. Moradin’s own creations toyed and tampered with in what I can only fathom to be some foul attempt to shape weapons and slaves.

I have studied Moradin’s teachings, searched my own heart, and feel upon my shoulders a responsibility to raise axe and hammer in a great purge of Xalliordell, in their entirety, from our slopes. For our corrupted lost and to see the All-Father’s divine wrath engulf those who trespassed against Him.

I call for the Hammerers to join us. I implore you and the Grand Council of Adbar to search your own hearts and find for yourselves Moradin’s Will in this matter. Should you feel as I, and find yourselves of ability, come, rally to Whurest. Let’s march on Xalliordell together and demonstrate to the enemies of dwarf-kind the full measure of the All-Father’s fury.

    Dryn Stonewhisperer
    Thane of Whurest
