  • A letter to the office of the Emperor

He hands the guard the sealed letter "Centurio Bram Drismon once told me that the Triad gets cut in line."He grins and chuckles"I am sure he was kidding with me though."He grins, bows his head and walks away

    To Emperor Verinus Nautius,

I am not perfect Sir. I have made myself, the Triumvirate, and my Lord Illmater look bad many times. I never intended to hurt people, but I too have done my fair share of brutality. It is no secret that when confronted with evil, I turned to the sword more times then I care to admit. And for this, Illmater no long shines his grace on me. Maybe the words of a fallen paladin will not sway you, but I have to try.

The people of Cheapside are dying. Good men and woman as well as rabble rousers that may deserve such a fate. I know law and order must be kept, but right now it is not looking like law and order. It looks like whole sale slaughter of peasants. These people fled the Black Hand for these sorts of tactics. I tell you bluntly Sir, that if this is the answers to the people of Cheapside, then they might as well have stayed below.

Sir, no one has done more for this valley then you. You saved us when no one else could. There is not a man, woman, or child in this city who doesn’t give thanks to the Gods that you are leading us in these troubled times. The people of Cheapside are there by your grace and generosity. I am begging you, not to stay your hand against those who have broken the law, but to show compassion and mercy to those that don’t deserve the fate of the gallows.

    Your Servent,
    Michael Zollas
    Triumvirate

The letter is passed through various hands before being diverted away from the Emperor himself and into the hands of Myrios Dular, commander of the 5th Legion.

    Mr Zollas,

Take it from me, the people of Cheapside are far from dying, a dying people does not rouse rabble, start riots, assault and murder good hearted and honest Legionnaires and behave in an altogether unpleasant and belligerent manner.

No Mr Zollas the people of Cheapside seem intent of displaying firm and violent signs of rude life often in spite of the rations, aid and comfort we work hard to provide for them. People of every level of society have been forced to go without, make cuts and suffered hardship, there is but a single entrance portal to this city, this means that the flow of food and supplies can be extremely tight. Yet despite these hard times only a tiny rabble within one district have seen fit to bring rack and ruin to others around them.

Perhaps your failures as a knight of Ilmater have blighted your views, to compare the safety and decency of our city and its Legions to the murderous terrorists of the Black Hand is dangerously close to insurrectionist speech. You belittle and insult the valiant sacrifices made by the glorious soldiers of the Legion as they fought to defend the innocent and us the time to raise this city to a point of safety.

In times such as this it is imperative that we are seen to enforce the laws of the state to their fullest extent. We cannot allow the State to be undermined by those who seek Chaos, Disorder and Infighting. If people are willing to break the States laws then they will have to face the consequence of their actions, we cannot allow people to shirk the law simply because times are tough.

It is regretful to see a letter of this type coming from someone who proudly associates with the holies of the Triumvirate, though perhaps my surprise should be dulled by your self-proclaimed status, your letter is full of complaints and worries, yet you offer not a single solution.

If you have actual suggestions or ideas to share, then I am normally to be found within the Legion Chapterhouse, otherwise I trust this letter will put an end to the matter.

    Regards,

    Myros Dular
    5th Legion, Sundren City
