  • A letter left at the Northern Watch barracks

    Ser Kimaris,

So many things have been brought before the Legion to save Sundren, feed the people and turn the tides of the war. The people in this valley worked very hard and came up with brilliant ideals but it seems that every one of them has been denied by the Legion.

Many would agree that the Emperor is a good man and does his best for the people of this valley. This leads me to the conclusion that all these efforts never made it to his eyes, but were blocked by evil people in his cabinet. We allow evil hearts in the Hands of Mundus as well as the Church of Helm. It would be impossible to remove the all the evil from his cabinet unless it was done at sword point.
I would like to make sure that the Emperor is really aware of all the things his people are saying. That is even if he's still alive. No one has seen him in a long time. What is behind the door to his office? I pray it's not three inches of dust. I wonder when the last time his good friend the Overblade saw him? When have the fathers of the Triad last given him counsel? We all stand by his side, because he is a good man who tries to do the best to protect all of his people. Perhaps it is time a faithful Helmite told him how much we all relay on him.

    Respectfully Yours,
    Michael Zollas.

A reply is returned, penned in a neat but somewhat cramped script and sealed with wax.

    Michael,

Of all the things I expected a letter from you might contain, I must say this was not high on my list. I will do my best to reply in a way that allows you to understand my position and why I can't do as you ask, at least in the way you want me to.

You know that I left the service of Sundren's State. And I've told you why. Perhaps if I had tried to do this while still in that service, it would be considered. But as you say, few people outside of the highest-ranked members of the State see the Emperor, these days. I was never so highly favored even at the peak of my service - I'm unsure if even the Overblade is. As to your thoughts on the Emperor and his cabinet, I would be careful who you speak these to, and where. The Triad has always been seen as an ally of the State, and many of its members regarded highly, like the Lord Tornbrook. But high regard won't soften the consequences if you become known for preaching about the corruption of the State.

But were I to speak to you about the Emperor I would say this, Michael. A man is only as good as the deeds done in his name.

You are a brother of sorts to me, Michael. A friend. Come to the Port and we can talk about what troubles you. Until then, Watcher protect.

A return letter to Ser Kimaris, sent by a runner

      Ser Kimaris,

I don't know about going to the port right now, some people may be a little angry with me, for some odd reason. How about Olivia and yourself come to the City and the four or five of us can have a little meeting. Hopefully we can resolve the troubling conflicts we are having.

      Respectfully yours,
      Michael Zollas

A reply is quickly penned and sent back with the same man who delivered Michael's, a sloppy wax seal showing the haste it was written with.

Four or five? I am curious who you refer to, as Olivia and myself make three, counting you. In any case my duties prevent me from ascending to the City proper for now, I can't afford the time of dealing with going through Portal security up and down and walking to the Gate.

Instead, I'll try to frequent the Second Wind after my patrols, and if you're present at the time we can head to Tyr's Fork and speak there. Until then, Michael.

Another response is sent not long after the first, this one written in a feminine script.

          Michael,

I could not help but notice the letter you have written to my husband, and I can tell you personally that I have no real interest in gathering and speaking with you. If you wish to speak with Kimaris, I can't stop him, but I won't take part in it.

Any conflicts we may have are your own doing, which does not surprise me considering how reckless you have proven to be. I have tried to give you advice on matters, and you've completely disregarded then, and then later on proceeded to insult me. So no, I won't speak with you.
