  • Correspondence to Lord Aurelianus

A parcel is directed to the Grandmaster of the Northern Watch, Lord Esmond Aurelianus. Its contents include correspondence bearing the letterhead of The Emporium, and a bound contract that details terms of the procurement agreement for supplies entered between the two parties.

    The letter itself reads:

    Grandmaster Aurelianus,

Thank you for choosing The Emporium as your procurement service provider. The Emporium is honored to do business with you and the Order of the Northern Watch.

In accordance with our discussion and as the requested undertaking may require extended time to complete, I believe it would be to both our benefit to lay out terms and compensation in written document so as to avoid any potential misunderstanding in the future. As such, I have attached a standard service contract for your review. Should it be to your satisfaction, please affix it with seal and signature at your leisure.

I had hoped to present contract in person, but negotiations have unfortunately taken me momentarily out of the valley. I would be happy to go over its details with you, should you desire, upon my return.

The Emporium looks forward to a bountiful future of service and cooperation.

    With Gratitude,

    Leithian
    Proprietor
    The Emporium
Upon close review, the contract itself does seem to be fairly standard and lists both terms of service and payment in consideration as previously discussed. A Nondisclosure agreement is included. Both already bear Leithian's signature.

A return of said contract is sent via Northern Watch personnel to Leithian.
The tower emblem of the order sits stamped at the bottom of the last page, a little crooked for the haste in which it was pressed.

Identical signatures above it are the only reply, scrawled out over both agreements where appropriate.

"Sir, we're surrounded!" "Excellent! Now we can attack in any direction."

Some weeks later, another package is dispatched to the Grandmaster. Within, a second bound contract is signed and affixed with the seal of the Emporium. Accompanying the contract is a letter that reads simply:

      To a most advantageous partnership.

Another missive is directed to Lord Aurelianus.

        Grandmaster,

When you've a moment, I'd like to meet with you concerning the assassin that attacked me upon Avanthyr's main road. If you could spare a moment of time, I would be most grateful.

        Warm Regards,

        Leithian

Leithian leaves word with his fellow Watchmen and the Grandmaster.

To the Brethren of the Northern Watch:

I must inform you of events witnessed at the Second Wind by my own eyes. An old man - faithful to the Lord of Bones - summoned an undead creature to the campfire. After being asked to dismiss the abomination and refusing, the old man proceeded to lay low a knight with whom I am unfamiliar, and Miss Nora Windwood when they tried to force the matter. The necromancer seems a master of magic and the shadow, fading from sight through unnatural means.

I regret that I was forced to take flight; it was clear I was no match for the necromancer. I don't know what he did with the fallen, but they were not there when I returned to the scene to see if any had survived.

Please be on guard and watchful.

          Leithian
          Quartermaster
