  • Letter for Myrios Blackwell

After making her way to the Legion Chapter-house in Sundren, Cora, looking rather depressed, leaves a message with Anderson addressed to Myrios Emiliana Blackwell. She explains it's a very urgent message regarding recent activity of the Bloodmaim.

    To Myrios Emiliana Blackwell,

I hope you receive this letter in good health. I'm afraid I have some dire news to tell you. I wanted to do this in person, but you weren't in your office and I didn't want to risk you not learning of this as soon as possible.

Bloodmaim orcs attacked the Exigo in the Schild mountains. Several others and myself were outside the Second Wind Inn when a wounded sentinel approached us. I healed him with prayer and he explained the facility was under attack by Bloodmaim orcs and he was on his way to get help from the Legion. A dwarf I had just met, named Dryn Stonewhisperer, a General and Counselor to Clan Whurest, rallied us up and I went along to assist as a healer.

Upon arrival at the base of the mountain, we found bodies littered everywhere and the nearby farm was set to the torch. We found a small surviving camp of Blackwood Mercenaries that further explained what had happened and that the orcs had begun to lay siege to the mining facility.

The others went ahead and I stayed back to heal the wounded and was later joined by an elf Blackwood mercenary named Laurana. I was able to save someone's life as well as heal three other mercenaries, though sadly only two of them would survive what was to come. A great number of Bloodmaim Orcs suddenly appeared from the eastern road where our party had just come from.

I suggested to the mercenaries that we run, but the sergeant pointed out that it would be useless as the orcs could easily take us. I then joined them in forming a defensive line with what I thought would be our last stand, but then something strange happened. The Bloodmaim did not attack and just waited.

Thankfully, the rest of the party returned and things no longer looked so bleak. As the orcs sounded their charged, everyone rushed in to battle them, though I'm afraid I wasn't of much help. The first wave went down easily enough, but then a second wave appeared that was lead by this gigantic hulking monster of an orc that wielded a great axe.

Everyone charged again, this time with the Blackwood sergeant leading the attack. He fought valiantly, but fell to the giant orc's blade as well as two other mercenaries. There was nothing I could do for them as the others managed to bring the beast down.

Shortly afterwards, reinforcements from the Blackwood company arrived and Laurana and others began to explain what had happened to them. Dryn and several other dwarves, whom seem to have some sort of facility on the mountain as well, advised the burning of the orc corpses as they apparently were tainted by foul magic. There was a bit of an argument with a red wizard that wanted to keep the giant orc's body for experiments, but we eventually drug it and all the other orc corpses off to be burnt.

Our party dispersed and I continued to help the dwarves burn all the orc bodies as the Blackwood tended to their dead. It took some time, but we finally had all the corpses up to the mountain destroyed. We then started to talk about what happened and the dwarves noted some strange things about this attack.

First, it appeared as if the initial attack on the facility was little more than a diversionary trap set for us. Though for why, what purpose, and how they could have known we were coming is unclear. Second, the dwarves had claimed the giant's axe and pointed out to me that it was far too well made to be typical Bloodmaim weaponry. He also pointed out that the orcs lacked the typical tribal tattoos. We guessed that either someone else is aiding the Bloodmaim with weaponry, possibly the Black Hand, or that this was a very elaborate ruse and we hadn't been fighting Bloodmaim orcs at all!

I spoke with them a bit longer on it until clouds started to form and rain came. We parted ways though the dwarves warned me that it seems like another war is brewing and Sundren would do well to be prepared for it. I'm inclined to agree. There was something very strange about this attack and I mean more so than the usual strange events in the valley.

This is all I have to offer. If you wish to know more, I would advise you get in touch with General Dryn Stonewhisperer of Whurest. He lead the attack on the "Bloodmaim" from beginning to end and would know more about the whole affair than I.
