  • A letter to the Myrios

A letter is brought into Myrios Blackwell's office buy a Legion courier. The letter bears the tell-tale signs that a someone wrote it on a shield. When asked who it came from, the courier says Sesquiplicarius Brown gave it to them, and told them to bring it directly to the Myrios.

    The letter reads as follows:

    Myrios Emiliana Blackwell

I send you my most heart-felt congratulations for your pending marriage. In life, there are many things that challenge us, many things that bring us happiness, sadness, uncertainty, laughter, tears, and fond and woeful memories. Marriage can bring all of those things, and more. Like many challenges in life, marriage shall test both you and your fiancé, but, it is a challenge that you will face together.

It can be a terrifying prospect, spending the rest of your life someone, but knowing you, you'll go into it fearlessly. Just remember that through out it all, you've still got friends and a whole legion that supports you in whatever you do. Never be afraid of asking for help in this time, for whatever reason. I know when you're young, you think asking for help makes you look weak, but get that notion out of your head now. Asking for help when you need it shows you own wisdom, a trait that I find to be very rare these days.

Again, congratulations on the beginning of a whole new chapter in your life. And if your fiancé starts acting like an ass after your wedding, just remember: You've got a whole Legion to hit him with. Remind him of that. When we next meet, we'll see about getting you out with a few friends to celebrate this glorious occasion.

Yours, in loyal service to the State, the Emperor, the Dusk Hounds, and the Citizens of Sundren,
    Sesquiplicarius Elmer Brown
We can axe if we want to, leave that sword behind. Because your friends don't axe, and if they don't axe then they're no friends of mine.

When Emiliana receives and reads the letter, she presses a hand against her heart and seems touched by the written words. No reply is yet composed, although the parchment is set aside on her desk in a prominent position.

A reply is eventually composed and returned to "Sesquiplicarius Elmer Brown." The missive bears both Legion seals and the seals of House Blackwell.

      Sesquiplicarius Brown,

Out of all the congratulations and well-wishes I have received in response to the announcement of my upcoming marriage, your letter has thus far been the most thought-provoking and poignant to me. I suppose it takes someone who has been married as long as you have been wed to Maria to offer the best advice when it comes to marriage.

You are correct in that the thought of binding myself to someone for the rest of my life is overwhelming at times, but my fiancé is a good man who will be as devoted to me as he is devoted to the State and his faith. As far as men are concerned, I know I could do a lot worse, but I do not think I could do better than him. Ours is not the head-over-heels love affair that I always envisioned for myself, but I think that it is a better, more solid and long-lasting type of commitment - one of which I can be proud. Knowing that my future husband shares many of the same goals and virtues gives me a renewed sense of hope and optimism for the future of Sundren Valley.

Thank you for your kind and heartfelt words. I shall always treasure them.

      Cordially,

      Myrios Emiliana Blackwell
      Tenth Legion
