A letter bearing the seals of both the Legion and House Blackwell makes a slow journey westwards, past the Silver Marches and Anauroch, until finally arriving at the southern coast of the Moonsea. The intended recipient is listed as "Elite Magus Hastian Sanneset," although a provision is made for the document to be claimed by a member of the Sanneset family should Hastian not be available.
Dearest Hastian,
Greetings, my old friend. I hope that this letter finds you well - assuming that it finds you at all. I regret that I have not written to you sooner, but my Legion duties keep me busy. The City continues to soar thanks to the efforts of the Hands, and the citizens and refugees permitted within the walls remain as safe as possible given the cramped conditions. Effecting change takes time - always time - but I maintain hope that the Valley will be whole again despite our current situation.
Recently, I was approached by an avariel who, along with former Elite Magus Samak Nerinide (yes, the one we fought outside the Towers that one time,) has been working near the ruins of Arbiter's Stand. The she-elf, Lasvi, found something amidst the field debris, and she brought it to me once divinations suggested that it once belonged to a Legionnaire. I recognized it the moment I held it, for it was the wedding band that you gave Aurora. The once-gleaming ring has tarnished with time and the elements, but the inscription inside the band was unmistakable: "The Best Is Yet To Be."
I spent some time telling Lasvi about you and Aurora; I spoke of how your love affair started and how you two were responsible for my (in)famous moniker. The memories were just as vivid in my mind as if they had happened yesterday, and the pain of her death still lingers within me. She was a good Legionnaire, but she was an even better friend to me and wife to you. I know you miss her, and thus you should be the one who has her ring.
I did not want to risk sending the ring with this letter just in case you had relocated, but I will send the band with haste once I receive a reply from you or your family. You are, as always, welcome to return to the Valley and claim it in person should you so desire. It would be so very good to see you again.
Please take care of yourself, Hastian. Your presence is sorely missed.
With love, and always your friend,
Emmi
