Hadrian slinks down the side steps of the Four Lanterns with his familiar, a bat, perched on his left shoulder. He stops near the bottom once he has a clear view of the stage which is currently occupied by a lute performer. No one notices him.. their eyes and ears are on the Lute.
"Ok Wing, I've got a job for you" Hadrian informs the bat. "See that person on the stage? The one plucking the strings on the lute... that oblong looking thing?"
The bat shakes its head emphatically. Hadrian thinks for a moment.
"Of course you can't... you're a bat! But you can hear it right?"
The bat nods vigorously.
"Good. Now, I want you to seek out anyone in the city making sounds like that and show them this note.. and this. Don't let them have it though."
Hadrian takes a ring out of his pocket, slips it around the bat's leg, and attaches it securely using a string. He then holds up the following note, which the bat immediately clasps with its feet:
"This ring is for sale. If you would like it for yourself, send a bid to the Four Lanterns in a sealed envelope. Address it to Hadrian."
"Now off with you, Wing. I'll give you some candy if you do a good job."
The bat takes off flying.
Hadrian retires, with a bottle of spirits, to his favorite dark corner table to watch the rest of the performance.
