A Letter Left for Urlok

On Urlok's next shift, a wight scrambles down the roadside and delivers a letter to him. It is tied in a bow with what must be a human tendon.

Friend and Brother,

I write to you in confidence today. We've had troubling times of late - tensions within and threats from without. I've voiced my concerns to you before of our allies, these fickle, ridiculous arguments over things that are do not matter in the least. And you and I both know the threats without - and have the scars to prove it!

Today, I set out to do something that matters in the end. I may not see you for many months, but I trust the Necropolis is in good hands. The news of Axxius' triumphant victory shows me he is now ready as well.

I advise you to remember we serve Him, and His church. We have allies and friends, but we are not their servants. We owe them much, but not servitude.

My loyalties may be in doubt and I may be pursued. I ask that you buy me a few days before you share the news of my departure. If you stand my watch for these days, they may pass without notice of my absence. I would be grateful.

Urlok sets his scythe down and opens the letter. Holds it upside down, turns it over, squints, and reads out loud while stumbling over the few words he can understand.

"Brother Sirin's doin somethin." "Necropolis, hands, church, friends, watch."

Scratches at his beard.
Frowns at the letter for a few more minutes before crumpling it up and shoving it into a pocket. Picks up his scythe and takes his place staring flatly down the Old Road.
