Dear old friend,
I have news regarding the Luskans putting the stranglehold upon Sundren's routes. I am afraid that everything we've seen so far is just the beginning. I have come upon some information regarding who may very well be leading the assault and who will be coming firsthand to take the matter onward.
You may have heard of the new Luskan High Captain Carligan. Over the years, he's collected more than his fair share of handles including Carligan the Wicked, Carligan the Heartless, and The Bringer of Red Shores. I believe an explanation as to how he acquired these titles is unnecessary. Lets just say there may not be a single inch along the Sword Coast that he did not bring some terror and bloodshed to. I've enclosed with this message some old wanted posters that I've managed to unearth.
The rumors say that he either bought, fought, or threatened his way into his current position in Luskan. Perhaps all three are true in some regard. The bottom line is that he is dangerous. Extremely dangerous. There is talk of him possessing one of the mightiest ships of the sea, able to take out a small armada single-handedly. I've also heard tales of legions of undead sharks magically under his command. Even if these stories are only half-true, it cannot be denied that this country may soon be facing its biggest threat yet.
Despite the need for preparations, I beg of you to be careful with this information. The very name of Carligan is capable of spreading panic if word reaches the masses.
