  • Concerning the Prevention of Evil

Letters are delivered to the Red Blade headquarters in Mirakus Post and Sundren City; to the Legion headquarters in Sundren City, the Gate of the Sunderer, and the Arbiter's Stand; to the Temple of Helm in Sundren City; to the Corps de Grace in Sestra; to the Wardens of the Vale deep in the Viridale Forest (via Tigen Amastacia). The letters are addressed to their respective organizations.

Rumors have spread from Sestra of a powerful necromancer who sought to wreak havoc, barely stopped by an odd assortment of adventurers. Following the defeat of the necromancer in Sestra, an amulet about its neck tore itself free and shot into the sky. I lead a group comprising initiates from my temple and others in a search for the amulet, which we found about the neck of a powerful undead. Following the defeat of the creature, which seemed only to be seriously harmed by my holy blade, I managed to capture the artifact by discharging its energies with the same sword. This is the second such amulet I've acquired after defeating a similar creature.

The concern is this: the Hands of Mundus have determined that these amulets are part of a greater whole that if completed could bring about the return of a tremendous evil to Sundren. Given the prevalence of Myrkul's cultists and the fact that the first amulet I found was taken from a creature summoned by Vraer, who himself holds a portion of the essence of Myrkul, this is my first inclination. The amulets are powerfully enchanted to grant their wearer dominance over the undead, but when around the neck of the creatures we've fought, they make the undead nearly invulnerable.

Given past experience with these creatures, I recommend that you and yours avoid engaging them unless I can be summoned to the battle. They seem impervious to most forms of harm, but my blade weakens their resiliency.

The amulets we've acquired will remain in my care, their locations known only to me and a few trusted others. We hope that further research will yield a means to their destruction.

The Even-Handed grant you guidance and mercy,
