  • Glyir writes to Torran Stonecracker

(( A letter and attached pages all in dethek runes delivered in person to Torran Stonecracker, the dwarven smith at the Exigo Trading Post ))

    Master Torran

Ay have scribed from memory some of the teachings of my Lord Gorm Gulthyn for the benefit of yourself and those interested in learning more.

Ay ask that you hold these for kin or others who might be interested. These others would include a female elf by the name of Aniewan or similar. Ay will return and supply further copies if required.

Recompense for your time can be provided.

May the Sentinel keeps vigil over you.

    Glyir Belindorn

    Guardian of Gorm Gulthyn

(( two copies of the following document are attached ))

Excerpt from The Tome of the Watchful Guard

This being engraved for the Watchful Guard on entering His service.

For Moradin sprang from stone and earth beneath. He fashioned dwarves of iron and mithral in his Soul Forge and breathed upon them to given them life. They were born within the heart of the world and battled upwards to the Realms Beneath. He saw that His children would need protection and beget others to watch and guide them. Gorm Gulthyn was given the task of guarding and protecting all of the stout folk.

Those who serve as His clergy are known as barakor or Guardians of Gorm Gulthyn. Your rank as beardling is as one of the Watchful Guard. Full initiates are ranked as being of the Vigilant Host.

Barakor guard clanhold entries and the great Gates on the borders of The Deep Realm and the temples of Gorm. We serve as protectors and bodyguards for all dwarves. Especially the young and their parents. We instruct dwarven warriors in the ways of combat and war. The highest duty of the Vigilant Host of Gorm is to protect the dwarves assigned to him. Those of yet higher rank may choose whom they protect. If this involves sacrificing one's life then so be it. For this is Gorms greatest price.

Never waver in your duty to Gorm's sacred charges. Defend, protect, and keep safe the children of the Morndinsamman from the hostile forces of the outside world. Be always vigilant and ever alert so that you are never surprised. If there is need be prepared to pay the greatest price so that the clan and the community survive. And your name will be honored for generations.

Excerpt from Precepts of Araubarak Gulthyn

Know that ay am Starag Crownshield. Prince Protector of the Golden Realm. Son of Vorn. Blood of Pyradar. Two hundred and forty sixth High Old One of Araubarak Gulthyn. Being the Great Shieldhall of Eternal Vigilance.

For as long as ay have served the Great Shieldhall of the Deep Realm has never been breached. As it has been for ever since the Great Founding.

When armies march against us we guard the Great Gates of the Deep Realm and march forth in defence of the Great Rift.

Know that the Face of the Guardian lies within. The greatest relic of His faith floats above the Great Altar. Those who seek to join the ranks of the Guardians stand before the Face and are judged. His judgement comes as firey light and those accepted emerge unscathed and those found wanting are rendered naught but ash.

Blessed be the name of those who serve His cause. For His vigil is eternal.

History of the Knights of the Sacred Shield chapter VI

And so in the second age following the reclaiming of Fallen Bhaerynden the Knights gathered. Scarce weeks before the youngfolk had been seized from the clanhold of Clan Gemscepter by the accursed drow. Who had raided through solid stone via magicks.

While the Knights prepared they allowed the drow to see the scouts of Gemscepter from a distance. The foe was left to think what they wanted to think and not think what else the dwarves would do. That not but vengeful and loud dwarven warriors would have to be faced.

The tunnels well clear of the drow were scryed and scouted. The stone where the drow were tracked and studied from afar. The ways were determined for one who had travelled them many times was found.

The drow fort was raided. From well known tunnels above a drop tunnel was cleaved with the aid of the delvessons. The Knights cast spell and device upon the drow and raided down upon great ropes. Great loss was inflicted upon them and the youngfolk returned. And Clan Gemscepter endures to this day. Being saved from final decline by the servants of the Lord of the Bronze Mask.

Excerpt from Devotions of the Golden Guardian

Being an inscription for warrior followers of Gorm. By Besender Deepdelve. Sentinel of the Fourth rank of Gorm Gulthyn.

Where practical red and black cloaks and helms are worn. Armor to be worn is of the finest metal and type. The holy symbol of the faith is a bronze shield. The barakor usually wear this around the neck on a burnished steel chain.

The temple is carefully fashioned of unadorned stone caverns or rooms quarried from solid rock. The altar is a stone bench or tomb casket in front of a closed and locked door of massive construction. This embodies a location that you will be set in front of to guard.

On holy days the Guardians gather for a salute. This being an ancient rite. Ground your weapons in time with the chant chosen by the barakor.

Offerings to the Golden Guardian are of weapons used in the service of guardianship. If they are broken in His service then this if for the better. Anoint them with tears and sweat and drops of your blood when making the offering. Perform the silent vigil and the four rites of prayer. The worthy may receive answering visions from the Eternally Vigilant.

Unrolling the parchment she quickly glances over the writtings with a small smile.

"Intresting, a document full of dethek script," she says to herself sounding pleased.

With a quick incline of her head to Master Torran, Aniewen slips the parchment into a scroll case attached to her hip and stumbles tripping over her long cloak as she turns to leave.

      "Blasted cloak!"
