Peridan was walking along the streets of Sundren, talking with the urchins and laughing with the various people he passed by. These were the people he fought to protect, the ones he wanted to lay his life on the line for. He would live a long time with an elf lifespan, but he saw a passion and fire in these people that stirred the very embers of his soul. The lived so fully, so completely, that it seemed like a sin to not value their lives. Good and bad, both taken to such extremes that made him question his own race's view on things some of the time.

To that end he had joined the Legion, to add his strength to the whole and to guard these people every day beside those among them who felt the same. He was a Legionnaire.

He happened by a little girl, whom he smirked at and pulled out a small silver dancer. The dancer twirled in his hand, bowing to the little girl's awed and excited face. She danced around his palm in an intricate set of moves and spins, ending up in the same position in which she started. The little girl clapped happily and opened her hands to recieve the gift from the master enchanter and smith.

But with a look of horror, she recoiled back, as if she saw something fearsome. Puzzled, Peridan offered her the dancer again, and she started to cry, running away screaming. Everyone else was gone.

It started to rain, big and loud drops that filled the alley in an instant. Peridan felt as though he was drowning in that rain, he couldn't find a way out! He ran along, tying to find an exit. He stopped suddenly as he happened to glance in a pool of water by his feet.

A being dark and terrible looked back at him through the puddle. His flesh a pale gray and in black armor. His eyes glowed with a hellish flame as he smiled back at Peridan with pointed teeth, hungry for anything that may come his way.

Horrified, Peridan tried to run away, but every where he turned the figure looked back at him.

"Don't deny it, elf. This is your future. Embrace it, enjoy it." He chuckled with a deep laugh that was almost identical to Peridan's own, only filled with malice and ill intent.

    "No! I'm not--"

Peridan woke with a start, the sheets clinging to his seating torso as he held a ball of arcane lightning in his palm facing the wall. He let the energy dissipate, wiping his brow. He stepped out of bed, rubbing his face.

    It was just a dream.

He walked to his mirror, looking at himself. Covered in small scars, because large ones would mean he had made a mistake in battle somewhere. He wasn't wearing his eyepatch, so the ruined remains of his eye were stark and ugly in the mirror. He looked at his other eye, usually golden and radiant.

A tinge of red circled his eye.
