Felix Hardgrave:
Felix is the seventh son in a family of twelve in the country of Amn in the city of Athkatla. The Hardgrave family were sculptors of commendable ability and their art bought frequently as decoration for housing. The family was a member of the silver social class and were a rising family. As a young boy Felix held very low tolerance for the family business thinking it not much fun, sitting around a pile of clay and all.
Felix started to take a liking to sword play and as he grew older he read many books about valiant hero’s traveling the world slaying evil villains.
At the age of 18 Felix finally grew tired of the pampered life and ran away from home joining a mercenary band heading north. He was not that experienced with the blade but his skills of speech brought him great popularity within the group. As the band of mercenaries traveled from job to job Felix began to negotiate payment deals with their varying employers and soon became good friends with the bands leader Adin Adestro.
Adin Adestro was a good man and knew is way around the sword. With Felix and he becoming friends he started to teach the young man how to use his sword just as well as his words. Felix show promise in his swordsmanship skill, but his time with Adin was sadly cut short.
During a job Felix and the mercenary band were ambushed by a rival band. They were taken by surprise at night in a barn in which Felix and his compatriots were spending the night. Many of them were asleep ,it was only by chance that Felix was awoken by a corpse falling on top of him. The night was filled with horrors for Felix. He saw his friends die all around him as several were killed in their sleep. Felix and his friends fought hard that night and killed many of their foes, but sadly victory would not be theirs. As the commanding officer saw that his men were being pushed back he ordered his men to set the barn ablaze and to block any escape that his competitors may take.
The barn went up in a blazing inferno catching not only all of Adin Adestros band inside but also some to the enemy’s men as well. The combat raged inside the inferno as man killed man as the roof came down. It was by chance that Felix live. He was submerged in a pile of his compatriots’ corpses creating a flesh and blood shield against the flames surrounding him.
When morning came and the flames died away Felix pulled himself, an inch from death, out of the blood filled cocoon. Climbing out of the ruins of the old barn Felix was almost griped with madness as he saw his hands, his armor, his whole body covered in the blood and guts of his friends. His madness was only overcome by his grief. Those men that died they were not just his fellow soldiers but his close friends and mentors. They taught him how to use a sword properly and how to get a good deal for his services, they were his life.
Felix sat for days staring at the burnt down ruin that was now his friends tomb and though who could have done this. As time passed Felix picked himself up and came to a conclusion on who may have done the deed, Marcus Orilious . Thou Felix did not know much of him he did know enough to know that he is a very competitive personality and has been known to hunt down competing mercenary bands and kill any who support that organization.
Felix now knows not where to go. He finds himself in Sundren to start a new life and begin anew his sword for hire business. Felix is a polite man and is not known to try and muscle his way through things if he can talk his way through it. He is always a chief negotiator and enjoys talking with others and gathering contacts. He finds that being nice to people is the best way of getting good pay and to pick your battles “ it is better to run today so I may fight another day”. Thou that may seem the mantra of a coward he is very much not that. If others lives are in danger he will jump to the occasion especially if they are friends. To Felix not to many people can be his true friends because after all they all died in the barn.
Felix is not easily fooled and distains people who go about life in a manner in which they use guile and cheat to get their way done. He never outwardly hates anyone because hate is a strong word and he will never give up on the face that there is always a little good in everybody no matter how bad they may seem to be.
Felix is usually open to the prospected of seeing new places and enjoys the accumulation of new knowledge. His number one hobby is reading and he does much of that on his free time. If you were ever to see him in a tavern he would usually be reading a thick book drinking a tall mug of brew.
Felix , being from Amn, loves doing business with others and loves to haggle with venders. He uses a lot of sayings from Amm like “ Good business to you” and “ If that was not the most kobold book of a sell I would foreclose to you my fee.
Felix does not know what he will find in Sundren but he has a feeling that it will be a taste of high adventure.
