  • Unknown traveller in a new land

A tall, tattooed man steps off the ramp leading from the latest ship to dock at Port Avanthyr. His hair is wild, almost matted in places. His skin is dark, either by birth or extended time outdoors... it is impossible to tell. He wears simple leather clothing, and an expression of disdain. He could feel the faint cries, even here...

Where wood and stone had been rended, slashed, and forced into shape.

Where fish had been drug ashore, gasping their last breaths.

Where insignificant people bustled about their insignificant lives... confident in their own superiority over the elements.

"Yes," thought Calek, "ports are sometimes worse than cities. At least you don't get the smug captains in their dead wooden boats... who sometimes manage to forget how the sea can be a thousand times more cruel than the land."

He pushes these thoughts out of his mind and focuses on the situation at hand. He had learned a bit about Sundren. The land was new to man. The mountains blasted open by an obsessive mage determined to spread his race to every inch of Faerun no more than two hundred years ago.

That idea of a fresh, wild, and untamed land appealed to him greatly. Though he knew he would have to hasten off the beaten paths if he wanted to find the true heart of Sundren.

He hurried his way through the port town, stopping only briefly to talk to some who looked like they might actually know what they are doing, and went on out of the gates.

He didnt look back... looking back is something he avoids at all costs.
"And thus I clothe my naked villainy with old odd ends stolen forth from holy writ and seem a saint, when most I played the devil."
