((Please keep in mind that most of Larando's paranoia is simply in his head, so unless you've personally RP'd in something that lead to his episodes or have read something that would make your character know what's up, it's prolly not wise to interact on that level with him....lest you find yourself in hasty PvP ))
The days had been harsh to Larando and the people he encountered harsher. In his mind, everyone he met was a henchman of Katie Blake. He lived in constant fear of being watched. He had left the Temple of Helm as the constant droning and preaching only served to drive him mad. With his options running out, he set out to stay at the Necropolis. It turned out this was unwise on two levels: For starters, the undead denizens sought to destroy him (which he thought to be grossly ironic). And second, it seemed every poor adventurer and do-gooder in all of Sundren seemed to be happening by the crypts (which didn't make much sense to him.
Leaving the City of the Dead behind him, Larando pressed on the Aquor. It was with great hesitation that he even approached the city because he had feared that Katie may have turned the Thayan Enclave against him. But, he had heard rumors that the Ice Witch resided north of there, and that was enough to drive him through it.It was a cold trail to follow, but the Ice Witch's camp was easy enough to find. That's Strange. I would have thought her to have her own keep with all the chatter about her, he thought almost aloud. As fortune would have it, she was there. He had met her before, and she seemed a cordial enough person, and very beautiful...in her own way. It didn't take him long to become infatuated with her, and she apparently knew something of him from previous encounters. This, he took as a good sign that he had left an impression. Larando stayed there by the fire for some time, even after she had left on an errand. He had stayed long enough the Uktar had located him via a sending spell and come to visit.
When the Ice Witch returned, she had with her a halfling. She wanted to introduce him to the others and utilize him in some plans. Larando was very weary of the hin and decided to test him. The spell was a simple one, damning darkness.
It was a spell that would reach into the heart of a person to reveal them. Only those who could be trusted ((evil alignment)) would be spared. Those who could not be trusted ((good alignment)) would be destroyed by it. When cast upon the halfling, he began to choke and cough but survived the spell. This baffled Larando as he'd never encountered someone who would only take moderate wounding from the spell ((neutral alignment)).
"I don't trust him." Larando would say. "Perhaps a test first." The Ice Witch seemed to have just the thing. The sent the hin on a mission to return with a cleric of Helm. The halfling would take what seemed an eternity to perform this task. Long enough, in fact, that the three remaining had time for long discussion on new plans and schemes. It was a long time before their thoughts returned to the halfling, even after Uktar returning to his duties elsewhere.
"He will betray us," was all Larando really had to say about him.
"And when he does, I will rip his heart out of his chest," the Ice With replied in cold confidence. But not long afterward, the Ice Witch announced her departure for some pressing business, and left.
Larando waited until well into the next day for the halfling and the cleric. His paranoia crept into his head and screamed at how bad an idea this was. The instruction was not to kill the cleric, but Larando had decided that if anything went wrong, he would kill the cleric and the hin and be done with this mess."It's a fine plan," he thought aloud. He had done all the prep work. He set up three walls with the illusionary wall spell. All he needed now was his quarry. The walls were set up in such a way that one would have to be an expert climber to get out with any haste at all. And the only opening was impossible to see from the road. One would have to be in the camp to see the trap. Larando smiled as he thought it won't hold him for long, but long enough to do what I need to do.
A test needed to be performed to make sure it would work. So, Larando used the dimension door spell to get himself down into the trap (as he is no climber at all, much less an expert). He looked around with great anticipation as he realized how hard it was going to be for anyone to get out of this! As he prepared to cast another dimension door spell to get back to the camp, he caught sight of the halfling run into the camp. Larando nearly lost all control of his bodily functions right then and there. It was all he could do to concentrate enough to keep from spraying vomit from the depths of his stomach, let alone cast spells. But, he took a deep breath and pressed on.
The first one was easy enough. He cast darkness on the very spot he stood. And the quickly cast a transportation spell on the cleric before he lost sight of him in the growing cloud of darkness. The blindsight spell he had cast on himself earlier helped. It didn't take long before he realized it had worked! He was in the camp, and the cleric was in the three-sided darkness pit of a cell. He quickly put into motion the next step of his plan. He cast the final wall to completely enclose the cleric in his pit.
It was a satisfying moment....but only for a moment. As he took a deep breath to execute the final stage of his plan, he saw her walking up into the camp. In all the commotion, he hadn't seen her approaching. It was the beautiful, yet venomous snake, Tamryn! Larando's mind raced. This was something he hadn't allowed for. Had he not been in the trap when they arrived, he would have seen them approaching and escaped undetected...which was the plan. But, this changed everything. Maybe she didn't see anything incriminating. How to diffuse this quickly? Larando though frantically.
By Tamryn's opening line of questioning, Larando learned that she knew he had transported a man in that prison. He also saw that Tamryn had another not far behind her. A mage, Larando knew. He had seen her before with a familiar. This was all so good and had gone all so wrong very quickly. He looked at the hin and muttered two words to him "Next time." and with that used his especially prepared escape spell, dimension door, before anyone had a chance to catch up with what was going on. With that, he stepped through and began to run. And didn't stop until he could run no farther. His only thought was that of vengeance against the hin who had betrayed him.
((I honestly don't know what happened after I left, so someone else will have to post that. It was all so very impromptu on my part. Not sure what else was planned in there.))
((*EDIT in response to Gabryal's post below, completely OOC* Larando sits in his new hiding place...the Sundren sewer. For all the bad fortune he's had, he still smiles for he's just finished the rough draft of the charter for the Villains Who Say "Ni"! ))
