  • Meritz Arathas

OOC: I know this is kind of long, but this is a character i used to play in nwn1, that i played on another server. I wanted to incorporate his deeds and such from the last realm i played on, but i didn't want to be cheesy and say "Then a inter-dimensional vortex opened and Meritz was swooped away into another realm.." kind of thing, so I did what i thought would be a more creative way of explaining it.

    IC:

The Realm of Krynn was a vast world, filled with prosperity and hope. The city of Palanthas, the capital of Solamnia, was truly a sight to behold. The Knights of Solamnia guarded the citizens of the city, and partook in many conquests to root out evil where it emerged. Largely, they were a very successful force, their only real threat being the Knights of Takhisis. But with their numbers waning, their presence was often ignored.
But as they say, all good things must come to an end, and with the rise of a criminal syndicate known as Entropy, a the Realm of Krynn seemed to be covered in a shroud of doom and despair. Serving the god Chemosh, lord of death, they sought out to enslave the people of Krynn. Under the leadership of Marla Varaan, Bringer of Chaos, Entropy terrorized krynn for many years before the Knight of Solamnia were able to muster a force large enough to take them on. Under the new leadership of Skifire Blackbained, a half silver dragon, the people of Krynn were given a new hope.
Entropy included a variety of races and practices. There was a group known as the Chaos Assassins, led by Aranor Arathas, High Chaos Assassin, brother of Meritz Arathas. Another group, the Chaos Acolytes, were led by a vile man known as Dai, High Chaos Acolyte. This group was composed of treacherous necromancers, evil clerics, and powerful mages. Lastly, there was as the group of warriors, who's sole intent were to inspire fear into every person who crossed their path. The Chaos Knights, who were led by Meritz Arathas, High Chaos Knight. For a organization so intent on bring the world into chaos, they were very organized. It was their common goal that kept them together.
Meritz Arathas was given the privilege to lead his Chaos Knights in the assault of Palanthas. Taking the city would not be easy, as no enemy, not even the Knights of Takhisis, have ever breached the city's walls. Nevertheless, the Chaos Knights marched into battle, with undead servants of Chemosh at their command. The Knights of Solamnia met them in an open field, with Lord Skifire himself at the front. The two armies stared each other down for what seemed like hours. Then, Meritz gave the order for an all out charge.
The two armies clashed, the vastly outnumbered, but incredibly skilled warriors of Entropy were proving a challenge for the massive army of Solamnia. But the Entropics could not win this battle without the help of the Chaos Acolytes, who were busy aiding the Chaos Assassins with their magic to sneak into the city's walls. Yet, the Chaos Knights fought on.
Meritz struck Skifire with his scimitar, only to have it parried by his greatsword. It was just Meritz and Skifire, and the two fought viciously on top of a large tower. Rain was pouring, lightning streaked the sky, and it seemed as if the gods themselves were all watching this epic battle. Neither one could get the upper hand, both of their weapons either glancing off the armor or being parried by a sword or shield. Exhausted, the two warriors stood apart, staring each other down and breathing heavily. Then they both charged and raised their weapons and as their brought them down thunder rang in their ears.
Startled, Meritz opened his eyes and looked up to the sky only to realize he had been dreaming again. He picked himself up from the ground and picked up his shoddy scimitar and shield and made his way from the camp down the path. What did this dream mean? Did it mean Meritz was destined for greatness? Or did it mean that his own lust for power would consume him in the end? He quickly pushed the thought from his mind, and walked off into the night.
