I set the pretty cat Anna down purring and refilled my waterskin, thats when I noticed it. A note from Hano? Huh how the heck did that get there? Meet me in the Viridale it said. Maybe there was some sort of special sending trick to send a peice of paper instead of a vocal message like Qybox does sometimes. I wonder if Paladins can do that? Send paper notes that appear in your pocket. Well so I tell Anna to stay there that he could be in trouble or something important. Besides I got a bigger cat to help me out when there is trouble afoot. Tala came bounding up to me later when I walked towards the forest. She seemed a little bit cross since Ive spent more time with the little cat anna than her, ah well its okay she knows shes my great friend.
So hmm I walk into the forest and think, you know I should probably cast some protections just in case. Right after I cast the first one STAB THUNK! I look down and there are two blades sticking out of my chest where my lungs should be! Tala pounces on him trying to get him off of me I gasp for air trying to get a spell off. Tala succeeds for a moment and I am wrapped in a healing cocoon. Thankfully my magic fixes my lungs and the holes in them and protects me as I can feel my attacker stabbing at the cocoon. It fades and there he is, some damned shadowy elf assassin! A clash of swords on my sheild and tala keeps clawing and biting in a fury of black fur. I protect myself with some more spells and then enchant tala to fight better. Get him Tala! I yell and she chases the assassin as he fades into the shadows, but the shadows dont hide his smell or his blood and shes on his trail I run after him but hes too quick and then he gets away. Once I lose him I pet the panther who saved my life, You are my best guardian ever Tala. I owe you some fresh fish for this one at least. Thanks girl.
An assassin, targeted at me? but im just a little gnome, what did I do to anger someone to that point? I guess Ive fought lots before and done lots of things, but wow I never really thought that would happen to me. Maybe I have more of an influence than I thought at first? I guess I never really thought of it that way. But someone wants me dead, and that is a scarey thought.
