Hano pushed through the library doors and swiftly makes his way inside. The storm outside was far more than unpleasant and he was not particularly enthusiastic about coming to the library in the first place. "However," he thought, "This must be done." Reassuring himself he continued his stride deeper into the library with an old but well kept book at his side. In the back of his mind he was hoping to find the Hin here, but knew that it was only wishful thinking. Actually, he would more than welcome a familiar face that might help him in hid endeavor.
His steel boots rang through the library with each step against the floor, disturbing the few scholars that were still awake and at studies. He already felt uneasy with the thoughts of coming here and the glares he received from the scholars stating their superiority weighed down his self confidence.
Not wanting to make any more of a disturbance than he already has he finds the nearest available desk and sets the book down on it. Sliding the chair back he plops down in it with a loud clank. He glances around a bit embarrassed by the noise, but it seems the scholars had already began ignoring him. Content with the current situation he eases the book open and begins to read.
Deep inside he knew what he was going to be met with, but even so, a great look of confusion falls on the Tormite's face staring at the cryptic text. He sighs realizing that this was near impossible for him, but.. He had to try. He pulled his journal from his bag and set it beside the book with his hand ready to record his thoughts and ideas on the matter.
He sat there a few minutes puzzled on where to even begin.. In fact he hadn't wrote a single thing before he was interrupted by the soft voice of a man approaching, "You know you have that upside down, right?" The robed figure motions toward the book. Hano's face grows red with embarrassment as he shuffles to rearrange the book properly.
The man smiles toward and speaks again, "Perhaps I can help.. I'm the Seer, Marcus." He moves beside Hano and lifts up the book and his journal with a smile. "Do yourself a favor. Find yourself a comfortable spot, change into some comfortable clothes, and relax. This doesn't have to be frustrating - We're here to help." With the books in the Seer's hands he turns away casually walking away, "Come with me." He leads hano to a nice private part of the library with comfortable chairs.. The change of atmosphere lifts Hano as he takes a seat to remove his armor.
"How can I help?" The Seer asks, setting the books down on the desk. Hano pauses for a moment trying to think of the best way to explain his situation. "Well.. To be honest I haven't even found a place to start. I'm given a book that is obviously encoded. That being the problem." The seer runs his hand acros the surface of the book speaking idly, "Well, encoded how?"
Slipping into his Paladin Shirt Hano replies, "From what I can guess it's short hand references that the author likely understood, but I would not... But that's only a guess." Marcus lets out a silent sigh shaking his head slightly, "Alright, let's take a step back. Put yourself into the mind of this person.. Why is it encoded? Why would they do this? What background taught them to do it, or where did they learn?" Hano begins to stroke his chin in thought. "Well.. My initial thoughts on the matter was that it was shorthand gibberish so he could quickly record his findings for equally quick references when need be. That doesn't seem like the case when I look at it harder."
The seer nods toward Hano as if he were getting somewhere. "It's possible that it's that, and something else. What can you tell me about this book?" Hano replies bluntly, "It's the remnants of Tifton Holyguard and his findings on weapon crafting. I've borrowed it from The Abbot Orlan Proskus." Marcus seems to lose interest in the subject but continues anyway, "Well like I said, put yourself in the mind of the author. I suspect you might understand them better than I could. If you were writing this book, why would you encode it?"
Hano's face grows serious now and seems to find a greater understanding of the book from the Seer's questions. "Well... If I had to encode anything, I would imagine it would be to keep my enemies from reading it should it fall in their hands... Or to be more vague - To control who the information could get to." The seer raises his brow in brief contemplation, "Very good point. I like that. So a the book that is potentially on weapon crafting, and you believe it's encoded to keep the information from falling into the wrong hands. I think you're getting somewhere."
Hano raises his hardened hand to his face to rub his forehead, "Though, we know that he wants to control the information within.. The reasons why or from who are in question. The obvious being to keep it from the hands of his enemies or those that would use it for greed." The seer shifts his position slightly, "Keep talking. Keep tossing out the ideas - Let the thoughts flow. There must have been some people this man trusted. Why keep the information from them... Or did he?"
Hano immediately pauses standing to his feet. "Y-You're right. That's it - There are two that I know he would trust with the information. The seer gestures for him to stop for a moment for a few last words. "They may have been the key to this and not even know it.. Then again, this Paladin might have taken the secret with him." He laughs lightly. "I heard a story once about a man carving the secrets to his fortune on the armor he was buried with."
Hano ponders on his words for a great while before responding. "Well... All scenarios are likely, but there's only one way to find out which ones will bear fruit. Process of elimination, I guess." The Seer hands Hano his books back, "Well, if there's anything else don't hesitate to ask." Hano accepts them with a warm and charming smile "I won't.. I'll likely see you again, friend, you've been a great help." With that Hano takes his leave with a few destinations in mind.
