  • Golems of Ilefarn

    *Pom Wador*

Okay wow now heres an interesting one. So theres this old man who came into camp while we were having a chat. Hes quite old but smart too and we were talking to him and stuff. He knew that me and Cirion wern't natvie to the Sundren area. Knew that by our accents? or lack of accents? Something like that. Hes quite interesting to talk to and I end up telling him a bit about my past and how I became to be a druid and came to be here in Sundren too. Seemed genuinely interested too. The fellow, oh right Avanthyr is his name but he goes by Avvy, runs a museum with stuff from Sundrens history or past and stuff like that. Knowing the past is a good thing I think, though I dont know lots about Sundrens since I havnt been here for a really long time.

So Avvy had found this map of a man who had been friends of Mundus, you know the guy the hands are named after. Apparently it leads to these ruins. Ilefarn ruins apparently, and I had to ask a bit about them, the Ilefarn was an ancient empire that existed a long long time ago. He says hes too old to go tromping around for relics from the past but would love to find out where the ruins is located and offered to pay some money. After telling us the general location we went looking. Lets see there was myself and about 5 others.

We went looking in the area and had an unfortunate run in with some lizard folk. We were looking and we got attacked a few times. I had to help the ones I was with and we fought well. As we looked around some more one of their leaders or shamans wanted to talk. He told us to leave and that if we found the ruins it would bring more pink skins to cause trouble. I tried my best to negotiate and talk peace to him, but Im affraid I just am not good at those sorts of things. They ended up attacking us again and we had a big mean battle. I didnt want to look for the ruins any more at that point for causing trouble with them, but trouble had already been caused and there wasnt much to do except find the ruins. We found them.

Had to dig the entrance open, the entire structure was buried by earth except for a little bit of stone archway which is how we found it. There was lots of digging and eventually we went inside the incredibly old old ancient structure. Once inside there was this black shadow ghost thingy, (not to be mistaken with a big blackish purpleish ghostly looking shadowy thing) This was just black and ghostly. It told us that we should leave and that nothing awaited us here but pain and death and various stuff like that. Once we attempted to open the door after much talking and decisions to finally enter, two statues on either side sprang to life and attacked us! They were like statues, or golems from what they told me, made out of old dried clay. They were pretty tough but some good old dire panther clawing and biting did the trick. Oh and that was me doing that in case you didnt guess.

So anyways we explored deeper inside and got attacked by this metal looking statue, er, golem with a big ol sword for an arm! That one was pretty mean but not quite as tough for us to fight as the first two together. Then going in deeper we ran into two GIANT metal golem monstrosities! Pandemonium ensued after that and there was running and fighting all over and I found that I could do only so much against one as a panther. Two of our number had fallen already as it was and I had to make a retreat after finally defeating one of them with help. We were wounded battered and the other golem was barely even damaged. This is important because its the first time ive done something increadibly neat.

To understand this you must understand that I am part of the whitepaw tribe, lead by chief mittens who has currently disapeard for some reason. She was able to call the great tree spirit and take its form to do battle. I have tried to become like her almost ever since I came to sundren. Well as the battle apeard to be almost lost I called for the help of the tree spirit crying WAR TREE! And it happened, I took the tree form and did battle with the last golem. It was a very hard fight but I manage to best it in nearly single combat. One of my companions attacked it from behind but only helped to distract it occasionally. I was very tired after that and we all took a rest, fortunately no one died but just got severely wounded.

After we proceeded farther we found a room with 4 more of those metal golem monsters. They blocked the room after making a horrible metal on metal racket. A couple tried running past them before they got into defesive position and they got whacked. After they got in their protective stance we decided to leave and tell Avvy everything that happened. The interesting thing is that once we got back and I was telling him everything that he said. "What you actually went inside the ruins?" Heh so the whole time he only wanted us to find the entrance but not go inside. He had forgot to tell us that or how dangerous it would probably be, but thats what you get when you go in old Ilefarn ruins that havnt been entered in hundreds of years or more.

Where are they you ask? Tsk tsk, you'll have to ask Avvy for that information.

Wow who would have thought this would all be connected together? Okay so Avvy sent me a letter, hehe me getting a letter well that was kind of funny, well better if it wasnt written on the skin of a dead tree but you know how city people are. Anyways, Avvy found out more information about the ruins we went to from before and asked for me to come with some people to help. So I got some friends who were in the grove with me and we went to the temple of Ogmah. He had found out some more things about the journal of a close friend of Mundus who had actually stayed at those Ilefarn ruins and made those golum things to defend it. The good thing was that Avvy got this rod, stick thing with runes on it which would help us to get past those four giant metal golems that we were stopped by before.

So we went with rod in hand and I lead the group into the forest. The vines I covered the area with were still there and we went inside. The same shadow thing was there warning us to leave which we ignored again and went inside. When we got to the golems the rune carved rod did the trick and we bypassed them without a battle. Oh the thing we were looking for was a metal disk with squiggly lines on it. We found it and I took it. Then when I got it the dark shadow guy appeared again, along with a bunch of his buddies and attacked us. We hacked zapped and chopped them down as they came at us then made a getaway as more kept appearing. When we got to the golems they started attacking us and we ran! I ran and yelled again and again for everyone else to run but they didnt really seem to want to for some dumb reason. Fortunately everyone else got to me and we made it out in one peice.

Disk thingy in hand and we went back to Avvy who did some wierd stuff with it and it started shifting and spinning and weird letters appeared on its surface. I still dont get exactly how it works but he was able to use it to decipher the part of the journal of mundus' friend that was un readable. So we were excited at first until we found out, oh right um the disk thing also made an image exactly like that powerful cube artifact, so me and Hano who had both seen the cube firsthand knew thats what it was about, anyways the journal stated that apparently the cube holds the avatar or essense of a God. A God! Can you believe that? I wouldn't normally have said that but considering the church of helm made a big official announcment about what was inside *shrugs* I guess me telling you doesnt matter. So now that makes me really nervous that the Talonians got their diseased poisonous hands on it, I just hope we can get it back safely and figure out what to do.

The Ilefarn ruins that Ive gone to for the 3rd time are gone now, collapsed, crumbled and destroyed. Ive heard stories of heros having to run to escape a collapsing cavern or something like that but I never thought Id actually be in a position like that. So I went back there the 3rd and final time with a mixed group of heros at my side. My oh my the shadows sure wernt happy to see us. Before we fought man sized shadow creatures but this time we fought a bunch more of those along with big ol giant shadow creatures! Fortunately there were a lot of us and we were able to best them after a bit of difficulty.

We got back to the 4 golems again and I tried using that funny rod thingy that we used last time but I couldnt figure out how to work the darn thing. Logan said he might be able to and so he fidgited with it for a bit and then managed to get the 4 golems to attack eachother! Wow it was quite an amazing thing to watch the big jumbo iron golems turn eachother into scrap. Well 2 were left after the fighting and then they charged us. I was ready for them this time though, calling upon the power of nature I blasted the first one into bits with a special anti-golem spell only we druids know. Most golems are immune to all magic or so Ive been told but this worked wonders crumbling it to bits. Tamryn and the others managed to hack the other one down without too much difficulty.

After we headed deeper into the ruins we found this strange obsidian plaque mounted on the wall that was covered with strange runes and characters which we couldnt understand. The thing is that we're going to need the cypher to translate whatever important information is on it. Well anyway I grabbed the thing and then the shadows attack us again, and after we finish fighting them off the whole place starts to collapse. We all make a run for it and eventually mannage to get outside safely and take the plaque to Avvy. He was happy to see it but is unable to decypher it without the cypher... Oh wait a minute NOW I get it! Cypher, DEcypher a chyper helps you to Decypher something hehe. Well now that makes a lot better sense. Anyways we'll just need to get it and then we can read whatever assuradly important stuff is on that plaque.

I had great help this time, but im not really going to miss those creepy ruins. Best to let them be buried by the earth I say.
