  • A debt repayed

It had started simply enough. Brak wished only to walk to the Tribal Lands and look for his little Brothers and Sisters.
He had not expected to find Pouty Man there with the Blond Lady.

Disscussion between them ceased upon his moving up the trail. Brak sniffed the air and let lose a soft growl at the scents.

Several words were spoken, most by the blond woman in a soft tone but Brak only watched Karthus. Karthus the Pouty Man, Karthus the sly, Karthus the Traitor. Karthus against whom his chieftain Mittens had called a Hunt for his interference in WhitePaw affairs.

More Words were spoken, Talky Talky...all the while Brak moved around the Blond Lady, maneuvering for position. Stepping lightly for all his size until the way was clear. Warrior Woman valued this Blond Lady, as did Feather Hat Elf. She had helped Brak free Warrior Woman and he did not wish her harmed.

Karthus cautiously stepped back, keeping the distance between them while this slow dance continued. The Blond Woman seemingly oblivious to what was to happen.

"Mittens has no forgiven ,Pouty Man. Brak care nothing for what others wish for, has crossed Whitepaw and insulted Honor of Chieftain. Hunt is called. Kill City if wish, Brak care little, kill other Humans *His eyes diluting to pinpricks as he kept the fury bottled as he was taught* Brak only care that Pouty Man stuck nose where was not needed and insulted Tribe. Brother Bear speak well of , Keeper speak well of once to Brak but maybe has changed since turn back on others *a small shrug*Is on Tribal Land now.

"What will you do Brak ? What do you wish , in your heart, to happen here ?" asked Karthus *speaking from his heart and with a certain need for a answer, a need for a reaction*

Brak felt this tug, understood it. The need for a reaction, regardless of cost. The need to be understood...even misunderstood.

"Brak wish Mittens was here, or little brother " He admitted

"But they are not, you must decide yourself, take action."

Brak will give hug like Pouty man like. Hug from Whitepaw Tribe.

The Blond Lady sighed, seemingly in relief.

The Howl exploded from deep inside, blood pouring from his nose, ears and eyes as he let the Rage take him over. The Rage had no use for words, had no complications, only hunger. A rage so deep, burning so brightly his body could not contain it without cost. The Rage of a bear in a man's body, too small, to weak to contain it.

"No !!! "From the Blond woman

Karthus reacted instantly. Brak was sure the man had known what would happen as soon as they had crossed paths. He was not unaware and some small part of him was pleased as the world dissolved into swirling chaos.

He did not expect the Human to shout words, words that hurt his ears and change, pulling rocks and earth around himself into a form that towered over Brak. Massive with arms as big as the Half-Orc's body.

The Howl tearing from his throat turned to one of delight. The Human had chosen to meet him in his realm and not use his majik. Strength would prevail.

The massive axe in his hand turned and he put all his strength into a flat deadly arc that would tear a man in two.

The clang as it hit the massive elemental was deafening, a notch appeared in the axe as it rebounded and Brak torqued it around, following through. Hammering at the rock as his axe chipped and the Elemental roared in pain as large chunks tore free. The axe biting deeper and deeper as the non stop Howl tore from his throat, tearing it and the sweetly sick taste of blood filled his mouth and fueled him.

Finally, after what seemed an eternity the massive arms of the Stone man came down ...crushing, grabbing, tearing. Pieces of armour ripped free from Brak's body to reveal flesh underneath and soon flesh tore as well.

The huge stone fist raised again, chunks of his flesh embedded in it...high over Brak's head before falling like a hammer of Doom and sending waves of pain through his body as bones broke.

Rage against Earth and one would break.

Endlessly Chopping as roars echoed through the forest while the Blond Woman stood frozen in shock. Blows falling faster as both staggered from grievous wounds. What was once a Mountain was now a hill, with chunks ripped free and Brak... slowly dying as bloodloss, pain and anger consumed him.

A final burst, a howl ripped from deep within his battered body brought the Stone Man down with a rumbling crash heard through the forest.

The axe flashed to the throat of what was now again a man, a human, a traitor.

Long moments passed as a life was weighed and the forest was still.

Broken deep within, blood poured from Brak as he stood over the Man. Blood mingling on the ground, on Tribal Land.

"Mittens call for Blood Hunt but not for Death". *softly from a throat torn and choked with blood* Was time when Brak like you before you cross Tribe.

Will not bother WhitePaw again Pouty Man. Brak care nothing for what do to others. * a pause* Will be nice to Warrior Woman too.

The man lay on the ground coughing blood. Shocked from her immobility the Blond Woman stepped to heal him. A soft Growl from Brak stopped her momentarily but he relented after a moment.

No offer was made to heal him by the woman he noticed with a grim smile.

"You made a choice Brak, I commend you on taking action and freeing yourself" . Karthus struggled to his feet. "May I heal you ?"

*A slow shake of the Head.* "Pouty Man have many tricks."

Karthus staggered to his feet and nodded.

Blood Debt repayed Pouty Man, Mittens may wish more and may punish Brak for letting live but Brother Bear and Keeper speak well of at one time. You will live this day. Brak is sure will face in battle again. Mittens and Whitepaw will make Mountain Pouty Man love so much to rubble and if Pouty Man is there... *a shrug from the Half Orc, both knowing it will happen and probably soon*

The Blond woman stood trying to take it all in. The sudden shocking violence from Brak and the almost peaceful look on both faces in the aftermath.

"You live Free, Brak " The human said as he turned away and limped down the trail seemingly satisfied he had gotten a reaction.

A slow nod from Brak, not quite understanding, as he bandaged his wounds and the woman trailed after the man.

He moved slowly, painfully to the Tribal fire and and placed his hand on the rock there. Far larger than the small Whitepaw tribe symbol on his armour, placed there by Mittens.

She would understand the large bloody handprint and the scent of the Man and his blood.

Much later when he was able to move he would tell Brother Bear of his actions and seek judgement for letting this man live when all cried for his death. Once from his God and Once from his chieftain.

    They were the only
    judgements that mattered.

As axe struck against rock, Karthus reached for magic that could have saved him a lot of pain - but instead, he remembered the oath he had made to himself. He remembered to which cause he had willingly become a martyr of, and what his responsibilities were. So he fell.

Brak was an example of all that Karthus wished for the world to be - free. The orc, in his simplicity, acted on his thoughts, and thought on his actions, and carried through with that which he had desired. He stood up for what he had percieved as being right, true, and just, without pause. Brak posessed none of the traits that Karthus had come to hate, and the traitorous man saw his own success when looking into the orc's eyes. He saw his success in the blood that drained from his own body.

A martyr in the fight against indifference; against apathy, Karthus couldn't help but smile as he collapsed to the ground, thinking:

    "Progress."

Much to her dismay, Karthus was actually satisfied. At least after she got him back up on his feet. She didn't pay much attention to Brak, not even noticing that he was wounded as well. She was still too down to think much about anything other than the long discussion with her fallen friend she just had.
