The bard stands there somewhat wide-eyed at the response in the bark.
"That settles it... He's crazy"
He sniffs the air around the tree.
"Sweet scrolls of Deneir... He did not... 'mark' it, did he?"

A few days pass before the bard's return to the tree. In such a short time, he has heard so much sorrow come from the lips of those who called this man friend. Despite the warning, he decides upon leaving one last mark upon the tree. With a small dagger, he carves:
In memory of the man we knew before.

Mandele walks past the notice, his hood low in the rain. He rams a dagger through it and runs it down, tearing the paper so it is barely readable. He leaves the dagger in its place and moves away whilst mumbling - 'Stupid fools.'

Jos'iah looks at the wanted scroll and looks at the name intently.
Is this not the man that saved me and my companions at the orc fort? Was this not the name that was uttered as he healed us of our many wounds?
I don't understand why he is wanted with such high a price. He did not speak as a spy nor like a traitor. Am I too naive or am I too easily fooled?
I am no enforcer of this land's laws and I am no mercenary of money. I pray that both law and good are traveling the same path on this one...

((Just a friendly head's up. All PCs who are lawful, and want to stay lawful, are expected to respond to this in a lawful manner. Otherwise, shifts toward chaotic may occur. Karthus is being called a criminal by the state; he's being called a traitor. These are not terms that are thrown around loosely. This is a formal notice from the government of Sundren. Your PCs can question the posting, but it may come across that you're also questioning the law. Just remember that our PCs accept the consequences of their actions, as Karthus well knows. ))

LH, Totally understood. Playing my character the way he is. He's neutral (as opposed to law and chaos) so he struggles with the two -- thus struggling with the Karthus issue. Also, I already got adjusted to chaotic for it *grin*

* A high ranking member of the Sundarian Legion can be heard speaking about Karthus to a number of citizens in the city trade district. *
The traitor known as Karthus is very dangerous, yes, and we do not encourage regular citizens to be approaching him with any intention of collecting the bounty. Rest assured, however, that the Legion and a number of private contractors are looking for him with great scrutiny.
* A number of questions come from the crowd, including the exact nature of his crimes *
Karthus was seen by the great Rismal himself aiding the Veritas to assault the loyal men and women in the Sundarian Legion. He even attacked a number of our soldiers, contributing to their deaths. He has additionally been involved with the attack on a number of adventurers in the Schlid Mountain area.
In addition, he is suspected to be in cooperation with the Black Hand of Bane, and instrumental in the liberation of the mass murderer Neradnal Ill'Koresh.
As you know, treason is punishable by death.
* The crowd gasps and many conversations occur at once. *
Yes, I know that many of you believe this to be untrue; to this I say you have been deceived, or subject to his ever chaotic and changing nature. Karthus is a man of many faces, and he shows the people around them what they want to see, or what he wants them to see.
Those of you who believe in law and order must understand the necessity of apprehending this man. He had his opportunity to turn himself in. Anyone with information about the criminal is encouraged to come forward immediately; those who do not may be charged with aiding a traitor.
* With that, the Captain of the legion posts new posters raising the bounty to 40,000 stags *
*Calowyn walks by several of these new posters, before stopping and taking one down.*
"This man attacked me and Isaniel, just the other night! He helped those Veritas Rebels at the Schild Mountains. Maybe I should find Isaniel and together we can look for this traitor."
*He then folds the poster up and places it in a belt pouch. He turns and heads toward the Sundren Library, where Isaniel spends all of her free time.*
