  • On Love, Faith, and Choices

    * If ever there was a breathtaking and captivating woman, it was she. It was more than just an outer radiance, though, for this kind and gentle and compassionate soul is beautiful within, as well. But she does not think about herself as such, for she believes that all creatures are beautiful in their way.

The child of Eldath sits barefoot in her domicile, brilliant strands of light illuminating cave walls, as blue butterflies flutter about and land on her bare shoulders. She is beside the pool of water, her toe drawing lines and circles in the cold liquid, as her mind drifts to thoughts of her father, the man she loves, and the state of her world.

A butterfly tickles her face as it brushes by, and she lets out an endearing giggle as she winkles her face and nose. The laugh resounds through the cavern, and outward into the sunny glade and past the ears of a man deep in thought.

He had never seen her like this before: distracted and preoccupied, but genuinely happy. He had his concerns, but he was happy that she was alive with mirth. He knew well the peaks and valleys that came with love, and the potential for loss and heartache. He did not want those things for his daughter.

The young man was a contradiction to him, this disciple of the Foehammer. His tenets were to find glory and honor in battle, and yet he courted the very embodiment of peace. He was an honorable man, yes, and not battle crazed, but how could he permit this barbarian of the icy North whose core beliefs differed so much from the passive ways of the Green Goddess to pursue more. For that matter, why would Eldath and Silvanus permit it to be? Could this union result in anything other than pain, heartache, and loss?

Worse still, was that he respected the young man. He was true to his word, honorable, loyal, and brave. He carried himself with a purpose, and he was just.

Sighing, he moves off to find Bernard to continue their important, but difficult, conversation. *
