*Tired and sore, Aidan head's back to the Temple of Tyr to retire for the night. He rubs a sore spot on his back where he landed after being thrown around at the gates of the Necropolis earlier that night. Before climbing into bed he grabs his dusty journal and a quill and writes down his thoughts for the evening*
I must reflect on what the Abbot has told us tonight. He has enlightened us with many details, some good, others not so good, but I must write fast as my memory tends to fade quickly.
My first thoughts must go to the Abbot and his involvement with the current situation involving Landaren and the 33 children.
This story goes back 50 years when the Abbot was much younger, and the Paladin Tifton was still alive.
The Abbot had told us how 50 years ago he had chased after and battled with the Ill'Koresh and their 33 minions. After 6 days of laying siege to them, trying to starve them out, they eventually entered to find the Ill'Korath stabbed by the 33 minions that had guarded them previously. I guess what they say is true, evil will collapse in on itself, but I digress. The two souls of the Ill'Koresh needed to be captured and with the aid of Tifton, the Abbot was able to trap those souls in a crystal. He said he had worn the crystal until the voices inside of it had become to much of a burden to carry, so he had retired the crystal to his studies and kept it under lock and key. Recently it was stolen by someone who knew what they were doing and was able to get around all of those things, whether they knew or not what they were stealing, that is still unknown.
So now the souls that have been trapped inside for the past 50 years are seeking vengeance and rebirth. They have already enacted on part of their vengeance by somehow being involved in the death of Tifton. Thankfully they have not been successful on coming after the good Abbot.
We are assuming right now that the end goal is to release the trapped souls from the crystal, and having them restored to their corporeal form. And we have learned that they will need the assistance of a god and a powerful cleric to do that. This is believed to be why Landaren is so important to the children of the 33, he must be stopped at all costs. The more I learn of what is going on with Landaren, the more I start to believe that this mans soul can be saved and that his actions are not his own.
The Abbot also fears that we have another traitor among us. We relayed to him our visit to the scrying pool and Orrick's attempt at the scry. It relayed to us that the Paladin's Tifton's risen body was to be found at the Necropolis. When we arrived at the Necropolis we were met by the 33 children. The one known as Billy was adamant that we leave immediately, the other Rosey, was amused by our presence. After requesting repeatedly for them to bring Tifton forward and being denied, I had requested to see Notfit, Tifton back-wards. That provoked a response out of Rosey, but before she could finish she was silenced by Billy. After relaying this info to the Abbot is when he confided that he was concerned about another traitor.
I don't know if his fears should be believed or not, or if it is just paranoia setting in after experiencing such a personal loss having been allegedly deceived by Kemnebi. The trial is still underway, and having little involvement or knowledge of the situation prompted me to remain neutral in the matter, I pray for a fair and just trial.
I believe there are many questions that must still be answered;
Are there really any other traitors working with these children?
What can we do about stopping Landaren? I believe this to be the most crucial thing to do at this point, he must not be allowed to complete the ritual.
Who did steal the jewel originally, and did they know what it was or was it simply another job for them?
I know I had more questions, but it is late and I am tired, hopefully they will come back to me during morning prayer.
At this point, there are so many questions with not enough answers, and with so many less people to trust, I sometimes fear our enemy is winning. I must remain strong though, the people of Sundren are relying on us to help keep them safe. Also I did promise Rosey that her day of Judgment will come, I hope I will be there to deliver it.
*with that he closes his journal, blows out the candle on the desk, and crawls into bed*
