  • Arcanus Liberus: Cadmus of Helm addresses the guild

    WARNING
The following thread is a meeting of the Arcanus Liberus arcane organization. In order to attend you must be able to cast 2 cantrips and during the meeting divination magic will be used to insure privacy. If you wish to spy on the meeting, talk to a DM for guidance, otherwise do not read this thread as it will be metagaming.

Slowly Cadmus enters the meeting and stands toward the rear of the assembly. After several moments he begins to walk toward the podium as the assembled mages begin to whisper at the sight of his appearance.

The former wizards immaculate, blue hued, field plate armor reflects the light of the many torches used to light the gathering. His Tower shield lays strapped securely across his back, and a warhammer hangs from a leather thong on his side.

Upon reaching the podium Cadmus raises his hand to cease the mutterings of those within and crowd. With a clear, concise voice he begins to speak, addressing the gathering of mages.

"Greetings my friends, my brothers, my companions. I hope that I find you well this evening."
"I have come before the council to explain the circumstances that have led me to cast aside my years of arcane study and commit my self fully to the tenets of Helm the Watcher."

"Recently, while investigating the arsons that spread throughout the city, I was touched with the divine power of Helm." "My companions and I had attempted to scry the location of a former Mey Savak Monk called Hojin"

"Hojin had suffered a terrible tragedy-his mind shattered and broken-his actions were not his own, but the memories of the founder of the Mey Savak order, Telos Duanil."

"During the divination Hojin attempted to repel our intrusion. The former wizard sent shadows of ash and fire against those of us gathered in the grove that night."

"The quasi-elementals powers were great, and those gathered fought valiantly till the end, but in the end, only myself and Dagorn remained standing our own deaths but moments away."

"In a final act of faith and desperation I called upon Helm, The Vigilant One, The Great Guard, The Watcher to protect us and lend us his aid."
"In that moment I felt the divine power of Helm flow through my body, its strength filling me to the point of bursting."

"When I could hold no more, I released this energy, it's divine light covering the grove in a brilliant flash." "When I regained my senses the shadows were expelled, and the fallen had risen from their deaths."

"This event led me to question my very reasons for existance." "Long had I dedeicated myself to the study of the arcane, but had I been so engrossed by my own motivations that I failed to recognize my true calling.?"

"I spent many days talking with others about this experience, finding a quiet introspection to discern the nature of this event."
"In the end I sought out the noble Abbot Proskus of the Temple of Helm.

"I retold the events to the wise Abbot, and with his intervention I was granted a vision, a foreshadowing of things to come." "I have no doubt that this vision was divinely inspired, and sent from Helm himself to aid me in my state of confusion."

"This vision told of a great darkness that looms on the horizon, of death, of misery, of sadness, of choices made, and responsibilities denied."

"After witnessing such a divine revelation my choice was clear, and I acted without hesitation or regret." "With the aid of the Mey Savak monks and the Abbot Proskus I cast aside my former self to re-emerge as a defender of Helm's tenets, a bastion of his faith, and a wielder of his mighty shield.

"No longer am I Cadmus Runesmith, Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep, that life has been placed behind me, cast aside for the greater good."

"I am now simply Cadmus of Helm, Priest of the Vigilant One and watcher of the darkness that comes."

"I feel that I must step down as member of the High Council, and cede my spot to another." "I would ask those gathered here this night, you honorable members of the consortium, to consider my membership within the Arcanus Liberus."

"If the guild would so deem it fit, I would like to add my wisdom to your meetings, though I no longer possess the ability to manipulate the energies of the arcane."

"I have chosen this path with full realization of the the consequences my decision may provoke." "If the council deems me unfit to further attend these gatherings, then I shall respectfully submit to its wisdom and this shall be the last night I address the guild in such a manner."

"The decision is your my friend's"

Cadmus steps down from the podium and walks towards the rear of the gathering hall, standing in silence as he awaits the councils decision.

*Elric stands up to address the assemblage*

I wish that Helm's power had surfaced before I was sent to my death, but alas, at least his power brought me back to this plane *smiles*

I was witness to the divining and lent my power of song to the endeavor. I fought the ash and flame and did finally fall. I was brought back by a power, I guess the power of Helm, but I am still a Bard, a member of the Arcanus Liberus, and one of its leaders.

What I don't understand is why you still cannot manipulate magical energies anymore Cadmus? I have known others before you that could manipulate both magical and divine energies.

Whatever your abilities are, I think it would be wise to have a Helm participant in our meetings, especially with the threat of Thay hanging over us. I see no problem with Cadmus attending our meetings; however, if he cannot manipulate the arcane anymore, he would merely be a delegate from Helm, with no voting power.

As to a new third leader, I say that we should nominate Z'huul, since he was the reason we are gathered in the first place and his involvement with Thay has been ironed out.

    What say you?

      * A chubby looking mage in the back row with cupcake crumbs on his mouth nervously raises his hand to address Elric. *

      Pardon me, but who's Thuul?

Cadmus smiles to Eric and rises to his feet.

"I underwent the same technique that Hojin succumbed too, although I was able to retain my sanity and retain my grip on reality." "The Mey Savak aided me during this transition, along with the Priests of Helm."

"To obtain the state required to fully commit myself to the tenets of Helm I sacrificed my knowledge of the arcane, it's memories forever stripped from my conscience."

"I have lost much of the power I once wielded, but every day brings to me new inspiration and deeper insights into my faith."

"In time perhaps Helm shall grant me the wisdom and ability to rival that which I once wielded."

"It was a great sacifice I chose to make Master Eric, but it was my decision, and I do not regret the results."

Z'huul speaks to the assembly "Guildmates, while I do feel that Cadmus conversion to a priest of Helm, May the watcher always look over my weaknesses, disqualifies him for full membership in Arcanus Liberus since he can no longer cast arcane spells, I feel we still need his wisdom and council. I ask that he be allowed to remain as a non-voting member of the guild, who can offer advice but will not decide policy." With this the emotionless mage steps back seemingly finished.
